Change Clothes & Go

(I know the title's been shortened to simply "Change Clothes", but I think "Change Clothes & Go" is a much better title)

so I just heard it on the radio for the first and 2nd time, both on the same station within the space of an hour. so I guess it's fair to say it's out there. yesterday on the "Whare More Can I Say?" thread, before I'd heard the song, I said:

"I'm a little worried about the lead single being another Neptunes collabo...all their contributions to The Gift & The Curse were, IMO, subpar, and it seems like for an album with this kind of heavy importance attached to it, bringing it out with a goofy club banger with Pharrell on the hook would be kind of pointless and dumb. so I hope they come hard with something different."

and goddammit, I hate being right. I mean, it's an OK song...but I haven't been wild about any of the Jay/Neptunes collabos since "I Just Wanna Love U" (although I liked "Fuck All Nite" alright). I dunno why Jay is so on Pharrell's jock...it's not like he needs a hot producer to get a hit.

and it seems to go against the whole proposed theme of The Black Album -- the whole point of the track seems to be "I'm back". i dunno...I just wish he could've come up with a lead single that has pop appeal but still comes hard on the verses, like "Hard Knock Life" or "Izzo".

there were rumors that were circulating a while ago about Nas guesting on "Change Clothes", which is pretty funny to think of now listening to the song.

Jesus, can you imagine Nas on this song? He would've started beefing again when he heard the final version.

"Excuse Me Miss Again" and "Nigga Please" are both great Jay/Neptunes collaborations, but this one is totally bloodless, like "Excuse Me Miss 1" except maybe not as annoying. I would've loved to hear Jay on one of their mindbendingly dense beats, like "Belly Dancer" or that NORE track from Clones, but so far the closest he's come is the "Rock Star" freestyle on the S. Carter Collection. I guess that's the closest he'll ever come, which is a damn shame.

And if Primo's beats were rejected, why not this one? Although, granted, I can really picture Primo submitting subpar beats, especially in light of how boring the last Gang Starr album was. I don't remember the last time he did anything really good. "Ante Up"?

"Ante Up" was DR Period. I can understand making that mistake, though. Preem still has heat in him, it's just few and far between these days. I think Jay should've at least let him pop on the intro, though, even if just for old time's sake.

this song sucks

jay-z is retarded for dropping the "& go" from the title, and making this the official single over "what more can i say" and also for "the blueprint 2: the gift and the curse"

sounded weak on Westwood last night, definitely - "Change Clothes", that is. "Killa Cam" sounded awesome.

I'm really fond of it, actually. It's kinda like Frontin' Part 2.

I like Jay-Z's verses, and the music just really appeals to me.
