Why isn't the Rev. Horton Heat making more waves nowadays? The guy (and band) kicks ass.

You really don't see anything about him in publications or media lately.

So what's he been doing these days anyway?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 26 October 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, and that's most of the problem.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Sunday, 26 October 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Putting out a string of mediocre rockabilly records. It's Martini Time was a step below the previous albums, and it's just been downhill ever since. (I gave up after Spend A Night In The Box, so there's a chance that the newer album(s) have been better.)

The Rev should be on my "bands you listened to when you were 17" list - Full Custom Gospel Sounds accompanied a lot of wasted time that year.

i would hazard as a guess that he's currently sucking, as he has been since 1996

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Sunday, 26 October 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

My dad has seen the Rev. like 80 bajillion times, I should ask him.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 27 October 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

he tours here ALL the time, at least once a year, and whoever opens for him is usually more famous than him by the time they get here

four years pass...

haha the Rev has one of those "20th Century Masters" compilations now!

milo z, Sunday, 28 October 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

it doesn't have "Psychobilly Freakout," "Bales of Cocaine" or "400 Bucks" so fuck that

that's bizarre

s1ocki, Sunday, 28 October 2007 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

Not really. It's that whole monolith's way of repackaging anything/everything (remember that he was on Interscope for a few albums).

I would have said that 30 minutes ago, too, but then I put the record on, and whaddya know -- it still kicks ass. Quite.

He's still in regular rotation over the p.a. at Freebird's World Burrito restaurants.

I was at a bar the other night and the DJ was really good - played some weird mutant blues stuff, something that sounded like Quintron, some raw guitar-and-organ led bepop, and this crazy surf-y version of the James Bond theme. Come to find out it's all one album - something called Reverend Organdrum, featuring Horton Heat! Never cared for the dude's psychobilly freakouts, tbh, but this album RULES. I bought it the following day. It's on Yep Roc I think. Had no idea it ever existed. Dude can PLAY, man - Lenny Breau one minute, Hubert Sumlin the next. Anyone else hear this?
