as an encore, which do you think it would be?

In London last night, Stephen did just that. The last song he played was ______ ____ and boy was it a beauty.

i may be wrong, but I'm thinking it's incredibly rare for him to do that. at gigs there's always punters asking 'dya think he will' and hoping for some recognition of his pavement past, but it never comes.

yesterday i think he made an exception because the song was requested by a friend.

I saw the first time Dave Grohl played drums at a Foo Fighters' gig, apparently. I'd care more if I saw it now.

From what I heard, Malkmus is quite happy to play Pavement songs now, whereas when he was touring his first album, they were a no-no. He ended up covering lots of other songs instead to make up for the lack of Jicks material at the time. But now that he does have a bit more of a solo repertoire, he's playing Pavement songs again.

Does ______ ____ = Summer Babe?

he did range life--it was pretty decent. a nice send off.

I'm glad to hear this, seeing as I never got to see Pavement live.

And Range Life is one of my favourite Pavement songs.

In addition to the Milwaukee show, SM has done some Pavement songs here and there - he's pulled out "Here," "In The Mouth A Desert," "Rattled By The Rush," "Ell Ess Two," "Feed Em To The Lions," "Shady Lane," etc. at different shows around the world. I've seen the Jicks nine times now, and he hasn't played any Pavement songs. I think he prefers to do that sort of thing as a surprise in less-obvious cities. Or maybe he actually hates NYC.

I do think that he prefers to play the Pavement songs as a special rare surprise, and he probably does not have any plans to make it a regular part of his gigs. That's fine by me, because I love The Jicks songs, and that's the band I'm paying to see. Of course, I saw Pavement a bunch of times, so I guess I'm spoiled.

Has he ever played OLD JERRY in concert?
I downloaded this non album track recently..great song

yaeger, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the Jicks play "Old Jerry" pretty frequently. They played it the last time I saw them. They were playing it at maybe one in every three shows on the tour for Pig Lib, and the support tour with Radiohead.

The first time I saw the Jicks in Atlanta, Malkmus brought out DC Berman and Bob Nastanovich for the encore and they did a couple Silver Jews songs. It was pretty awesome.

grainy video, but it's impressive that the jicks pretty much look exactly the same as they did 10 years ago.
