Bands from Cambridge, UK.

What bands actually come from Cambridge? Has it ever had a recognisable sound (like a Merseybeat equivalent (tweedybeat, or donnishbeat, perhaps)), or is it too diluted, suffering from the fact that a large section of its young population, possibly those with enough time to form bands, are students from elsewhere in the country. Do Cambridge bands have anything to say, or are people living there generally too affluent, too bookish, too posh, too punting?

I think the Softboys were from Cambridge, along with Syd Barrett. I also associate it with English pastoral psychedelia.

Sorry, that should read: I always associate...

Not a long list of names on AMG:

Advertising, Animals On Wheels, Pete Atkin, Syd Barrett, Beloved, Gwei-Lo, Tim "Love" Lee, Olivia Newton John and The Soft Boys....

Jez, you're not confusing it with Canterbury are you?

They have a Battle of the Bands thing every month or so at the Junction, but the bands aren't famous. And there are often bands on at The Boat Race, presumably some of them are local. And bands play pubs. I have never been to any of these places.
