"EPMD is a subject for [this thread]...they rock my world.Really, is there a band that gets more shoutouts in other band/artist's liner notes than EPMD?"

When the DJ throws that on, the first thing you hear is the chopper effect....oh snap.
"If you want some water, then get you a cup/ and if you don't want it, then burn the hell up!"

I wonder what they thought of ATP?
― Pillbox, Monday, 29 September 2008 08:28 (seventeen years ago)
xxpost etc. - You Gots To Chill = best rap cut of the 1980s (yes, that includes PE, Eric B + R, NWA, Whodini, LL, Run DMC & everybody else listed in the liner notes to "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back")
― Pillbox, Monday, 29 September 2008 08:33 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, but it's not better than "It's My Thing".
― Double Leaning Jowler (The Reverend), Monday, 29 September 2008 08:34 (seventeen years ago)
U mean the Salt/Pepa track? OK then..
― Pillbox, Monday, 29 September 2008 08:36 (seventeen years ago)
ummmm....what? I mean the EPMD track.
― Double Leaning Jowler (The Reverend), Monday, 29 September 2008 08:39 (seventeen years ago)
O wait, duh. Nevermind please..
― Pillbox, Monday, 29 September 2008 08:39 (seventeen years ago)
The first thing that popped into my mind was "Shake Your Thing."
― Pillbox, Monday, 29 September 2008 08:40 (seventeen years ago)
Not sure, but their set was incredible. High energy, great setlist, lots of fun.
― ilxor, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 02:04 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah it was great!

i can't stand hearing the zapp band "more bounce to the ounce" without the rap over it. epmd made the definitive version of that tune. same with the jb's "monaurail" on "let the funk flow."
― elan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 03:03 (seventeen years ago)
Disagree about Zapp as they were HUGE in 1980, but I'd agree that It's My Thing defined '7 Minutes of Funk' more than the original, Grandmaster Flash's breakout single, and yeah, even Jay-Z.

The Juice ost is real good. Has my favorite Eric b & Rakim joint on it.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Friday, 27 May 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
Great EPMD tune too, natch.
Still feel like the initial drop on Da Joint is one of the best in raps.
Some classic Jeep ridin' in that video too.
