killer house album

Hey,
I'm a programmer with a six-month contract starting in January 2004. I've only ever been able to finish these contracts when listening to good house albums. Alex Gopher, Etienne De Crecy and Daft Punk have all helped me finish big websites. Most recently, I finished a project with Kitten And Thee Glitz.
What past/future house album will I be able to use to get myself through this project?

this is a lovely question - i rarely hear killer house albums anymore though unless thay are mixed ones. for a single artist record i'd recommend the Metro Area elpee from last year - it may be a bit low key for your tastes but it is yummy!

Basement Jaxx, Kish Kash, obviously.

Ian Pooley's Since Then should help you out. The Mastercuts series is great for old school shit (esp. the Classic Garage Mastercuts Vol. 1). Inner City's Big Fun (it's called Paradise overseas) is probably my song-for-song favorite dance album ever. Also check out I-F's Mixed Up in the Hague and Disco Nouveau for more electro-sounding stuff (like the Felix record).

Try Luomo's Vocalcity.

Old ones I'm afraid. I am getting on in years now and can't get to grips with the kids music.
Ex El - 808 State

Triple R, Friends
Superlongevity 2CD comp/mix
Luomo, Vocalcity and The Present Lover
Digital Disco (not the 2nd one, which is nowhere near as good)
Ricardo Villalobos, In the Mix: Taka Taka
Matthew Herbert, Globus Mix Vol. 5: Let's All Make Mistakes

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Alexander Kowalski Response

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Siegbran what does the Kowaksi album sound like? I'm excited by your big-ups of it in another thread.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 30 October 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, did anyone ever get that Impulsion album that came out in 1999? I read about it at the time and it sounded hella good, but I never saw a copy anywhere.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 30 October 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Kitsune Love comp - yes, get this one!! (it's compiled by Todd Edwards btw)

disco stu (disco stu), Thursday, 30 October 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"soundtrack for life" by a:xus is a great, unfortunately underrated, house LP. its "deep" house but dont let that put you off unless you need something at a faster tempo to work. if that is the case, then pick up a jungle comp ;-)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 30 October 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Silent Introduction by Moodyman
Bodily Functions by Herbert
The Button Down Mind Of Dan Bell (it is a mix, but a good one)
Every Dog Has It's Day Vol. 1-4 by Jeff Mills
Where Life Begins by Larry Heard(fuck anything else on this thread, get this NOW! This is DEEP DEEP DEEP!)
Journey With The Lonely by Lil' Louis

I am so behind the times anymore...

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Thursday, 30 October 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

wherewherewhereWHERE do I get this?!

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 30 October 2003 05:28 (twenty-two years ago)

mr nihilist have youheard the album "genesis" by mr heard?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 30 October 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The Kowalski album is housey, funky techno - think of a funkier Underworld or John Tejada, with zero filler. Absolutely fantastic, album of the year for me. preview samples here

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos you should be able to get it easily enough, it's fucking great too. Maybe comp of the year.

It has a great cover of Daft Punk's Too Long done by Gonzalez, very funny and cheesey in a piano bar sort of way.

Also Lovegames by Shakedown and Love Lost by Alan Braxe and Fred Falke.

Another decent suggestion would be the "My House In Montmartre" compilation, it's got all the artists you suggest on it aswell as Falcon, Phoenix, Cosmo Vitelli, etc.

(and if you haven't heard "Behind" by Lacquer seek it out immediately)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I second Alexander Kowalski and also recommend Medicine8's ;ironstylings.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't heard that one Mr. Grossman. What is the story with that album?

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Thursday, 30 October 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 November 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I once razed a village with the help of "Der Kommissar"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 15 November 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Does the Romanthony album have "Let Me Show You Love" on it? I love that tune.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 16 November 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
Siegbran, got that Kowalksi album 'cos of your recommendation, and it's terrific! Everything I'd hoped the Dave Clarke album would be, but wasn't.

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Romanworld is not as good as this thread would have me believe. Sorry, martin. :(
