Well, is it? My finger's teetering over the 'buy' button. Thing is, these sprawling future funk epics sometimes date quickly,

Please don't!!!!!!!

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not "future funk". At least, I hope it isn't.

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Does it all sound like that bullshit song he did with the Roots? no, no, no

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

say what??

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Search for the other thread on this lying around. As for the alb., I am of the opinion that had some filler been left out it would have MOS DEF been a masterpiece. As it is it stands as a great one, but not purrfect.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard two good tracks from it, and the recomendations from punters on Amazon are all very positive. What I want to know is whether anyone here's actually sat through it all (39 tracks!) and thinks it's a classic.

persecution smith, Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the track he did with the Roots, but otherwise, I think he's a dick.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

He looks good in leather, apparently.

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

So did Gary Glitter.

Lots of filler, lots of dumb songs, lots of misogyny. A few choice cuts, but not enough to redeem it.

Kevin Erickson, Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

There is nothing futuristic and very little funky about this disc.

Download "Bitch I'm Broke" and call it a day.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

so I'm guessing that
no one's ideas have changed
since the last thread then?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it bad? To release a double-album as a debut is certainly a risky move. I'm sure there's a lot of filler there. Funny that I came across this, as I just saw him performing at the Shortlist ceremony (on MTV2 this morning) and I really liked it!

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

my view hasn't changed,
either; I still think it's great.
flawed, weird, fuct; still great.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The first disc is spectacular. The second one, not so much. Still def. worth buying.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I love love love the Roots callabo. Then I download half of the album. I can't even sit through half of the album. (nb not 'half' by disc, just about 20 random downloads)

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 31 October 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I paid about 20 quid for this!

*sobs*
