pressed into emergency dj'ing service tomorrow night, and looking for something other than monster mash, etc.

I'm stocked on the Whodini as well, but suggestions in the hiphop/r&b/disco direction greatly appreciated.

rocktober, Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Is "Thriller" too obvious?

Kevin Erickson, Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Not obvious enough. "The Monster Mash"

Lynskey (Lynskey), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

dj jazzy jeff and fresh prince 'nightmare on my street'
prince 'batdance'

also, didn't the fat boys have a nightmare on elm street themed song?

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

dean, good call on batdance: the fatboys did jailhouse rock, which is (semi) creepy. keep 'em coming.

rocktober, Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

The gravediggaz!

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

SKINNY PUPPY TO THREAD

In high school, I put "Tormentor" on continuous loop at a school dance. When people began complaining, I switched to Bigod 20's "The Bog", which went on to become a little minihit in my high school (every dance we did after that, people would go mental for that song, "911 Is A Joke" and "Dance For Me").

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Gravediggaz!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, research:

the fat boys did "are you ready for freddy?" from nightmare on elm street four. i have this and the fresh prince one on 45.

i also have batdance on 45 and if you play it on 33 prince says something about drugs or something.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sure there's 800,000 creepy ramones songs ... but i would go with 'chainsaw' or 'pet sematary'

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a track or two on Phantasmagoria by the Damned that would handily fit the bill, notably "Grimly Fiendish" and the ridiculously-over-the-top "Sanctum Sanctorum".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

ive got about 200 songs at home. i will cut n paste titles if i get home in time, ok?

kephm, Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Wanna scare the snots outta people? Put on Plague Mass by Diamanda Galas and leave it at that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah alex, gravediggaz - 'diary of a madman' was on there.

notorious b.i.g feat eminem - 'dead wrong', too.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

also, didn't the fat boys have a nightmare on elm street themed song?

I'm sure that Will Smith is super-psyched about this confusion.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 October 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

rockwell - somebody's watching me

and a similar song, but for the ghetto-tech generation-

dj assault - u cant see me

how about some T.G. too

pete from the street, Thursday, 30 October 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure why but "Shock the Monkey" is screaming at me to mention it on this thread.

I don't get this comment.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Thursday, 30 October 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Achem! "Everyday Is Halloween" by Ministry.

Xii (Xii), Thursday, 30 October 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess it's not really definitive, but Beck's "Corvette Bummer" may fit for the little electronic witch noise it samples.

Famous Athlete, Friday, 31 October 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i second the rockwell and getto boys selections.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 31 October 2003 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

darth nader, Friday, 31 October 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Bungle "Vanity Fair"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 31 October 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't get this comment.

"Nightmare On My Street" was done by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (AKA Will Smith and his DJ friend Jeff), not The Fat Boys. Will Smith is pretty much the polar opposite of fat, so confusing him with The Fat Boys made me giggle.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The Cure's "Lullaby". This far down? Really?

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Friday, 31 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, I was listening to a track called "Halloween Mary" only last night - by P.F. Sloan, who was sort of Bob Dylan for 8 year olds.

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 31 October 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

ROCKWELL (FT MICHAEL JACKSON) - SOMEBODY'S WATCHING ME

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i am shocked it took as long as it did for someone to mention "everyday is halloween"
tisk

dyson (dyson), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

outkast 'happy valentine's day'

cos that shit is too good to only figure on one lousy day of the year

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaydee - "Plastic Dreams" works a charm, cos of the haunted house feeling. I'm also partial to The Mover - "Nightflight Nonstop To Kaos", Chapter One - "Unleash The Groove (125th & Lennox mix)", Dillinja - "Deadly Deep Subs", etc. think dark gloomy carvernous and you've got a winner, or at least a cowering terrified audience.

Paul (scifisoul), Friday, 31 October 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd gotta say "Boogie Down With JackolanTron" by Josta Baby. And it has great vocoder work.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Friday, 31 October 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Dig it, minions!

Many of the tracks on the excellent "Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires" album feature fake-scary intros (like "I AM THE MUMMY!") which were removed for the GTA soundtrack. Also "Hollow Bones" by the Wu-Tang Clan.

d'oh!

Shamhain. Or however the fuck you spell it.

ian g, Saturday, 23 October 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I always thought Samhain were overrated (being the awkward transitional phase bewtween the Misfits and eary Danzig), so Shamhain might be more appropriate of a title for them!

DougH, Monday, 25 October 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah How to Make a Monster is the best Cramps release in decades.

Zombina and the Skeletones (love that name)
Rob / White Zombie
Horrorpops
Nekromantix

foolish moi, i take that back! i've listened to November Coming Fire several more times since then and its the JAMZ.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 30 September 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

i still prefer misfits though, but samhain turned out to be better than my initial impressions were. i was judging them by the first album Intium, which just ain't as good as November Coming Fire..

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 30 September 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

Halloween Shindig by Jerkin' James Whitcroft

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:00 (twenty years ago)

A couple more great horror-themed rap songs:

Royce da 5'9": "Scary Movies (The Sequel)"
Method Man & Redman: "Cereal Killer"

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and...

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony: "Mr. Ouija 2" / "Mo' Murder" (two tracks segued together on their debut LP, though you can scrap the first one if you want to, that's just the intro).

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:17 (twenty years ago)

"This Corrosion," obviously. And Kate Bush's "Waking the Witch," maybe (not exactly a dance song, but would be killer with like strobe lights and stuff, will you have strobe lights? You need strobe lights for Halloween).

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

I'd go for Midnight Mike's "Necro Dance", "Bring Me To My Senses", or "Midnight Drive" - http://s28.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=34IMUQ2EQ78CG0FKUWP7L39T3K.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

Also listening to a very interesting "Doo Wop Halloween" compilation.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

ah brilliant, nice one.

Doo Wop? How about "Goodnight My Love" by Jesse Belvin, which is pretty creepy. As for Jonathan Richman, try "Party In The Woods". I'm trying to think of some Beach Boys Halloween songs and the only things I can come up with are their live cover of the Monster Mash and Fall Breaks Into Spring (Woody Woodpecker Song), neither of which seem to work.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)
