So I do this ripoff of Tom and Mike's number-one blogs, as some of you already know, called Boogie Fever. This is the thread in which anyone who wishes to discuss it can do so.

Discuss Boogie Fever if you wish.

could we maybe get a list on the sidebar of the songs?

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

all of them? or just the 8s, 9s, 10s a la Popular? I mean if I'm gonna rip it off I might as well rip it ALL off....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 30 October 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

well i was thinking all of them, but that might ruin the surprise

it's certainly been bookmarked.

when you're done with #1's, you can go back and do the #2's.

sure, as soon as I've tracked down and written about all 1100 or so of them.

I'm kind of interested in how you (and Mike for that matter) are handling the marking systems - how you're expecting the distribution of marks to pan out for instance. (I have a massively geeky spreadsheet for Popular which is keeping track and tells me that so far I am prone to 5s).

and we're back in some '40s B&W weepie in which the complicated-haired starlet looks dejectedly down while fake tropical background stays stock (hah!) still and cigarette smoke wafts in from every conceivable angle (or maybe I made that part up).

Awesome. I love these kinds of non-musical connotations in criticism; they often do a much better job at conveying the sound of the music.

Mr. Matos is an inspiration, and Boogie Fever is amazing, y'all. As is the WFMU program Douglas Wolk did. One question, though: anyone know how I could burn his show as an mp3 disc? Gracias.

I can't stand the suspense! What, tell me what is going to get a 10?!
Oh, "One Nation Under a Groove"? I knew it!

MM, I want to let you know that Boogie Fever is the first blog I have ever bookmarked and I hope to be enjoying this journey through the history of black popular music for years to come. By the time you're done with this baby, you will have put together a truly important document. I love studying the R&B charts- I've taken the Whitburn book out of the library too many times to mention and am on the lookout for a second-hand copy on eBay; I also collect soul radio surveys and am fascinated by what records were bigger in, say,
Detroit or Philadelphia, than nationally. You are doing something important here,... so keep going!!
