are the pop ambient things as pop as they are ambient?

Kompakt just released Pop Ambient 2004. Lineup looks something like this: Klimek (!), Triola (!), Ulf Lohmann, Markus Guentner, Donnacha Costello, Andrew Thomas, Pass Into Silence (?).

Hector, you might want to check out the disc where the Phong Sui tune originated -- a compilation called Teil 1, released by Leichtes Horen and distributed by Kompakt. It came out late '01. And no, none of the Pop Ambient stuff is as pop as it is ambient, save for a couple stray tracks (Geometric Farms' "Men of Many Sayings").

what pop ambient record should I get if I can only afford to get one? I liked my friend's copy of "2001" that I had for a couple of days but is there a better starting point?

Everything that came out of that whole "microhouse" thing, Phong Sui have really validated it for me.

But Chris I thought your favourite microhouse track was the Royskopp remix of The Streets?!?!?
