Monkees, the end

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 November 2003 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Does it actually make it better or worse if she's singin' "do-wah diddy diddy dum diddy do", snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 3 November 2003 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Frank Zappa, "see that girl walkin' down the street/ EASY MEAT!"

"Here she comes" - Femme Fatale
"Here he comes" - Waiting For The Man
"There she goes again, walking down the street" - There She Goes Again
"Here she comes, here she comes" - White Light White Heat
"If she comes now now" - Here She Comes Now
"Here she comes now" - I Heard Her Call My Name
"Oh now, here she comes" - Beginning To See The Light
"Oh now, here she comes now-wow" - Rock And Roll
etc., etc.

And Lou Reed wins the most repetitive lyricist award.

always loved Lester Bangs's typifying Reed as belonging to the "I went to the chair/And then I sat down in it" school of lyric writing

So are you guys saying that this isn't awesome?

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

song called "here she comes" and a song called "there she goes" two tracks later and you don't think the fucker's self-aware?

thom west (thom w), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't understand why these are examples of "laziness."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Stone Roses, "She Bangs the Drums"
Hall & Oates, "Maneater"
Slowdive, "Here She Comes"
Cars, "My Best Friend's Girl"

Jeremy (Jeremy), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

If you removed all the songs that mentioned "street" in them, Lou Reed's oeuvre would be very small indeed.

Also I think R.E.M. did a real fine job of covering "Pale Blue Eyes" and "Femme Fatale".

Joe Jackson leans on this one for the opening to "Pretty Girls," but he doesn't come across as particularly lazy about it.

hahaha, that's my favorite line Bangs ever wrote.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 22 April 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

Phil Collins is more interested in telling the listener how he's been "waiting for so long".

Rock singers be hangin' out on the street watching people approach

Hurting 2, Sunday, 22 April 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)

The Here She Comes thing is the best thing about Lou Reed as a lyricist. It becomes this motif he's built his whole body of work around, its this kind of generically poignant piece of brilliance. And I don't like Lou Reed a whole lot, but I love when he says those words.

I know, right?, Monday, 23 April 2007 01:29 (eighteen years ago)
