Is this the thread to say that the Grafiti track sounds like the work of someone who had only read *negative* reviews of The Streets and Audio Bullys, and set out to make a track which matched those reviews perfectly?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

was it not made by mike skinner?

this is exceelent frenchie&son.

jed (jed_e_3), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

definitely one of the top 5 Superchunks ever

Grafiti is great Tim, and the Bug remix is even better

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Only because it buries the original under two square kilometers of hard cement dystopian ragga-tech barrage!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

well yeah

i heard the new Grafiti on Sunday night too (same show as this F&S mix) and thought it pretty cool

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the grafiti song in fairness, I think you're being harsh Tim. The filter in it is really novel, all dirty and undulating.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like the music. The chorus bugs the hell out of me in a way that helps me to understand how The Streets or Audio Bullys might annoy other people. It's takes the concept of hooliganism in dance music straight into grim parody.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 3 November 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

what a shitty set, it doesn't even have "Slack Motherfucker"!

(sorry.)

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

you will be

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

that sounds awfully threatening. if you're thinking about tracking down and personally punishing everyone who makes a lame joke on ILx, I think you've got your work cut out for you.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

3. f&s - bohemian rhapsody [exclusive]

Should we feel special then? Haha.

I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy this mix much, which surprised me. Lots of good tunes, but an over-reliance on fudging 50 tracks into one another instead of letting them breathe. I know that's part of the point (ie. the whole fun "let's see how many tracks we can fit into a half-hour set" thing) but still, it's not really all that enjoyable to the ear. Which may also be the point. But still. Hmmm.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

er, well SOME of us enjoyed it to the ear (that 'let tracks breathe' argument irks me - i don't think that's ever the point with this kind of mix but yeh many people probably expected something different to what they got)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

the point of our mix was to try and create a 30min compilation of music and artists we listen to and get our inspiration from. we didnt try to cram in as many artists as we could in the 30mins either...and believe me, we could have added a lot more. we just wanted to create a mix that kept evolving but in a not too obvious way, and from the responses we've had so far, i think we achieved that.

thanks again for your comments and thanks for listening.

sonof, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to this right now and it's super!! I don't get the "mashing too many things together" vibe at all, especially compared to the Soulwax stuff which really is exhausting to hear, a la listening to the whole side of Stars-on-45. Nice fuzz on "Blood Brother"!!!!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
the new 'everything you do is wrong' mix is SPECTACULAR. you can still get it on boomselection.info

Sven Bastard (blueski), Saturday, 12 March 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)
