This is brilliant, a great writer

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Monday, 3 November 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i love it

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Monday, 3 November 2003 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't - he's not a great writer - he's also not so very far from a moyles type narcissistic fool himself.

jed (jed_e_3), Monday, 3 November 2003 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Myh god, that's terrible!! He's actually got worse since nme booted his ass. I mean:

They’ve got Will Self. He’s a clever posh bloke who takes lots of drugs and writes dreadful books. Basically he’s me – only posher and cleverer and druggier and not as good. ,
i mean IN YOUR FUKCINg DREAMS SWELLZ.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 3 November 2003 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Swells = the Moyles of writing

kill them both

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

That is like so not true!!!!11 The Moyles of writing is, um, Dominic Mohan or someone. Perhaps that American guy who writes columns about how big his SUV is and how much black stuff it belches out. I can't remember his name.

As for that piece I read it in about 60 seconds, line by line rather than word by word. I assume that was how it meant to be read. It was quite funny.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Christ, that's embarrassing. Swells was always a cock, but at least he could, once upon a time, construct a sentence. That's like the worst LiveJournal entry ever written...

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i found this to be a tedious, juvenile and worthless article.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Swells = swearing as unfunny substitute for sentence construction
Moyles = fart jokes* as unfunny substitute for sentence construction

*or whatever it is he does, I've only ever listened to him once and now make a point of avoiding all radios whenever I think there's a risk he'll be on

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

See, being an old phart and all, I remember this time when swells was actually quite funny from time to time. In fact, I remember a period of time when swells and barbara ellen were the only 2 writers worth reading in the nme 9this may = a terrible indictment of the mne at that time, i can't really remember) now look at the pair of 'em!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

this wasn't funny at all. even my 15-year old Swells-liking former self would have found that to be tedious and juvenile. i'm never fond of throwing insults like "fat cunt" around, whatever the context.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"(this may...)", "nme"

god my typing is getting worse.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

chris moyles is a fat cunt: context is v important here kilian.

classic yet again :-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Julio saddens me as ever

chris (chris), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah and after mocking ilm yesterday for being predictable!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only being predictable bcz you lot are. steven wells writes shit article shockah! bah...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

don't sink to our level julio

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll try not to.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i love tedious juvenile articles! well more so than anything Moyles related. Though this is kind of meh - just a grumpy old man being grumpy. I can do that. Just watch me.

Alan Curmudgeon (Alan), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

no you can't. no i won't.

excellent piece. james whale collides with ben watson. lovely stuff.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

God, it's like "Def Comedy Jam" as envisioned by Radio 4 listeners

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

so what you're saying is this is the greatest article you have read in recent months :-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

its complete shite - there not one funny line in it.

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

swells gave rave reviews to zorn and brotzmann (peter & caspar) in the nme way back when! for years i thought he was the alter ego of ben watson. then i met ben w and realised he wasn't. i still like to think that secretly, somehow, he is...

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

He still quacks on about Zorn, or more accurately Painkiller, every so often. He once compared them to Spiritualized, which must have taken quite a bit of lateral thinking...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

''its complete shite - there not one funny line in it.''

I thought there was quite a few funny lines in it actually.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm.

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm...well, apart from what appeared to be a dig at eliot smith it was funny.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

he's no funnier than Moyles frankly

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm!

Busta Rhymes (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"hmm...well, apart from what appeared to be a dig at eliot smith it was funny."

I love(d) Elliott Smith but it would be a severe flipflop on Swells' part to say anything else...

(Yes, I can see the comment had nothing to do with the subject of the piece)

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)
