are you ready for some....blue monday??

I don't really have a question -- I just thought I'd point out that on Monday Night Football last night, they played a promo for the broadcast during the first half, featuring an atrocious/hilarious version of "Blue Monday" -- not the Orgy version either.

I guess if anyone knows whose version it is, that might be interesting. Mostly, I'm just baffled and amused, since there's no use of the words "Monday" or "Football". I guess they expect their audience to make the connection, or they just love the song?

Maybe it's the undeniable connection between New Order and US jock culture. TV is hilarious.

I once saw a stripper dance to the tune of "She's Lost Control" by Joy Division. This is worse than that.

hmm, this would actually have been quite apt for last night's match between Birmingham and Charlton

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, whenever I listen to Joy Division's Closer I imagine people stripping to it.

our marching band used to go buck wild on "They Walked In Line"

dude they play fugazi's 'waiting room' at redskins games -- anything can happen with football! (fugazi does not see a cent for this tho)

I'd like to see football abolished.

!!!!!!

I once had a dream that I watched a stripper dance to "The Days Of Swine And Roses". She then turned into a bat and started eating people. It was HAWT.

Alex in NYC: if football were abolished, the world of jock jams would suffer dearly. Surely you don't hate Gary Glitter and Utopia that much?

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

we all hate Gary Glitter now

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

how about banging on the drum all day? how can you hate that?

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

What Utopia song is considered a "jock jam"?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

That's Rundgren solo, man! Don't blame Utopia for that piffle.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Bang on the Drum. as someone who has attended several NFL games, (including one super bowl) I can swear to you that this and R&R pt II are the most common jock jams in the NFL. make of that what you must.

x-post, sorry.

is it really?? I been misinformed. These are things that I don't know. I only know who let the dogs out.

I heard this, too. Sounded like hack nu-metal dudes murdering what they surely thought an Orgy cover.

Couple years back, the intro music to teevee coverage of the Indianapolis 500 was the Cure's "The Kiss". Most unlikely jock-jam evah?

briania, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, maybe it's time for someone to compile the "unlikely jock jam" album. but only if we can use the original Blue Monday.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

Saw Rick Astley do Blue Monday on Wednesday night. That is all I have to say.
