I can't remember who did it and its hard to explain without auditory assistance but here goes...... and i know few lyrics
from the early 90's (i think)

the lyric has this part "Step outside your leavin'..."
It kind of had a "Lola" (kinks) type feel.

chorus "why don't we let them be eeeeee"

btw

the song was fairly popular. I remeber last hearing it a few years ago when the Kids in the Hall toured before the came onstage. and I also remember it being on the Real World (I think San Fran.)

yeah

it's kept me awake too with multiple attempts on Google and various other avenues but with no success. THe song was pretty popular, I don't know why I can't figure it out.
I forget about it but then a few months later it pops right back up!
arrrgh!
I know i've got the few lyrics right or close enough to where someone will know it.
the singer has a twangy voice like flaming lips or jane's addiction.

Could it be Jane's Addiction? That step outside you're leavin' sounds just SO familiar.

The chorus of "No One's Leaving" by Jane's Addiction goes "No one is leeeeaving", not "why don't we let them be eeeeee."

It's a good song regardless.

The chorus bit sounds almost like it could be STP's Lady Picture Show - other part doesn't match though.
