Anyone else who posts goes up in my estimation drastically. And, yes, all his best stuff IS from his Reprise and Capitol years. Dean was always a country kid at heart.

I'm not familiar with anything other than a best of compilation I own, but "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" is surely the best. Hell, I even started a thread about it a few months back!

"My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" is a duet about loneliness. That's some high concept ish.

Picking just ten will require some thought, but in the meantime I must just draw attention to this DVD. It's a compilation of musical numbers from The Dean Martin Show and is possibly the single most entertaining disc in my DVD collection. It is a fucking laugh riot, you will weep tears of pure joy after seeing him sing 'Houston.'

Retort: do you know if that DVD is available for both regions?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

is "my rifle..." the duet with Rickie Nelson from that western I can't remember the name of?

Yep. "Rio Bravo".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

great tune!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Dom: As far as I know, it's only available for Region 1 (US/Canada). However, I did rip it to .AVI format a while back for my Dad back in Region 2 land. I don't have the files any more, but I can always ask him to send them back to me and put them on a CD for you, if you don't mind watching Dino on your computer screen instead of on the telly..?

Dino still helps me to sleep at night. I really like 'Long Long Ago', a duet with Nat King Cole.
