(One more goddamn gear question) So, which guitar did YOU select out of your collection to jack the action way up high to mess around on with a slide? And why?

I did it to my Squier Affinity Strat with the rosewood fretboard, because I have a real American Fender strat w/ the rosewood and also another Squier strat with the maple fretboard, so I really wasn't taking anything away from the arsenal, more like adding to it.

Also, it's amazing how you can sit on the couch and doodle around with a slide (having minimal previous experience) and sound really good and play anything that comes into your head (Layla, Freebird, Saints come marching in, Happy birthday to you), but as soon as you try and lay down a slide track on a tune you put down on the 4-track, and you can't hit an exact note worth shit. Maybe my ear wasn't as good as I thought it was.

are you using an open tuning?

Nope. Don't wanna even fuck with it, when I put the action way up high and then drug the saddles back for intonation, the tremelo bridge came up off the body because of the weak-ass springs and the fact that I don't have the wood or the tools to block the tremelo down (thus I had to tune and retune for like 30 minutes until it stablized), I thought about doing and open tuning, but that shit would take forever (ya drop one string and the rest go sharp), so I'm keeping it EADGBE. I intonated it though, so I can still play it regularly, it's just that all my psuedo-Slash licks are way harder to pull off.

I love open tunings: some of the neatest are open C6, low to high:
C
A
C
G
C
E

and:
D
G
C
G
C
D

Back in the day I used to d the "Ostrich" tuning like Lou Reed would do (EEEEEE), but that was only when my strings were totally shitted out and I was gonna change them the next day. Also, every once in a while I'll get a wild hair up my ass to do (low to high as well)

E
B
E
G#
B
E

and I'd play that Black Crowes "Talks to Angels" song for 20 minutes, and then tune it back regular. Which leads me to another thread...
