Probably one of the more clever Rock the Vote ads that I've seen.

Elyn (elynbeth), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the gist of it? My comp won't load the movie.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Wesley Clarke in this touchy feely setting with a bunch of the "young generation" talking about his stance on issues. "I didn't support the invasion of Iraq, I'm pro-choice, blah blah" and the last thing he says is "and I don't care what the other candidates say, I don't think Outkast is breaking up, Andre3000 and Big Boi just cut solo records." It loses something in the transcription but it gave me a giggle.

Elyn (elynbeth), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha very cute.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That's hilarious. It's like a skit from "The State" or "Mr. Show" or something. He has my vote. If I wake up in time to register. And then drag my ass to the vote place.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It's pretty funny. Clark delivered the line well.

Nick Mirov (nick), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

sweet. if i was american, he'd get my vote. even though it's a pretty shameless pile of youth targeting. it's pretty funny, though, with the wigger coming forward and greeting him in the end ...

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The ad's funny, but I'm still not gonna vote for him. (The fact that I dislike Outkast did not affect this decision.)

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

If I get a chance to vote for him I probably will. Though the NY primary is so late, that by that time the nominee is usually a fait accompli.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

uh... wigger?!

and surely none of you are saying that the fact that either he or someone on his campaign team know who Outkast is will determine whether or not you'll vote for him. For fukkssake...

flightsatdusk (flightsatdusk), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

No, sorry, I didn't mean to imply that. I just think he's the most electable of the Democratic field.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I would vote for him based on the fact that on a surface look his views and philosophies seem close to mine, but I could also say the same thing about Dean and Kerry.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

well go ahead and vote for bush then, you schmuck!

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

If it matters, I'm more impressed that Clark is capable of writing lengthy intelligent essays for the New York Review of Books (let's see George Bush pull that off) than that he knows who Outkast is.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's also see George Bush pulling off the illusion that he knows who Outkast is.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"Senator Kucinich, where do you stand on the Outkast issue?"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like to think that if GW's into any new music, it's Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Lonestar. in fact, im mentally picturing him air-guitaring to "superman" in the mirror.

Felcher (Felcher), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

That ending was damn funny! Hope it's funnier with the sound on.

He made a glaring error by naming Andre first, however.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like when the Daily Show asked John McCain that Bjork question, or when Alan Keyes embraced Rage Against the Machine.

Michael Patrick Brady (Michael Patrick Brady), Thursday, 6 November 2003 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick, 'Senator Kucinich' is only slightly more likely than 'President Kucinich'. I like the guy, but the thought of him trying to prospect for votes someplace like Cincinnati is pretty gruesome.

Jeff Wright, Thursday, 6 November 2003 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

D-d-d-dennis! Kucinich!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

will clarke have changed his outkast opinion four times by tomorrow? Mary?

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 6 November 2003 06:46 (twenty-one years ago)

If Dean's serious about appealing to "pickup trucks with confederate flags" he needs to pledge his allegiance to Bubba Sparxxx.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 6 November 2003 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Bubba Sparxxx or Kid Rock? Or Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Granted, it was 13 years ago, but the last time I was in a situation where I regularly dealt with people who drove pickup trucks with confederate flags, they weren't too keen on music that wasn't hard rock or glam metal.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

D'oh! I mean "Congressman Kucinich".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

will clarke have changed his outkast opinion four times by tomorrow?

Oh no, no one should ever change their mind.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 6 November 2003 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

How many examples of major presidential candidates saying something positive (or at least not-negative) about current musical acts can people think of? I know this isn't unprecedented...

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Thursday, 6 November 2003 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

When asked what his favorite song was, Howard Dean mentioned Wyclef Jean's "Jaspora". So there's at least one.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 November 2003 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, we all know Clark's totally WRONG. Plus he dodges the two real questions:
1. Which disc is better?
2. Is Outkast a rock band?

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Thursday, 6 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember 4 years ago McCain saying some non-negative things about Nine Inch Nails.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

good lord american politics is funny.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

There was this...
"I hear Bill Clinton was out seeking foreign policy advice from the rock group U2. You may not know this, but they try to call me every night at the white house...when it comes down to it, I'll be meeting with Boris Yeltsin and John Major. Bill Clinton can stick with Boy George." -George Bush Sr.

BrianB, Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

was bush trying to out clinton with that sly unrelated boy george comment?

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, his speach writers probably were. He tripped over the delivery badly enough that it was apparent he had know idea who Boy George was.

BrianB, Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

good god, talk about tripping over deliveries: speach=speech, know=no, me=too much coffee

BrianB, Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)
