i've been here for about a month, so i've found the empty bottle, sonotheque, bottom lounge, an art space called the Spare room(the dropp ensemble played there), a little bookstore called Myopia that's hosting some weirdness on Monday nights, and the texas ballroom that has indie shows every once in a while. But, alas, i need more!!!

Anybody wanna turn me on to some new spots??

The girls from Pink Section used to have shows, but then one of them moved, but still has shows at her space. I don't remember the name, though. :(

The bookstore's called Myopic.

You might wanna try joining the chi-improv list at Yahoo! Groups.

Doesn't Michael Zerang have a space called the Candlestick Maker on Pulaski near Montrose?

The Heaven Gallery on Milwaukee sometimes hosts events w/ music.

Also the Deadtech Gallery in Logan Square (if they're still there - I moved outta Chcago a year ago..)

Dannys Bar in Bucktown is usually just DJ's, not much live stuff, but pretty experimental/eclectic.

The Butcher Shop is another spot that opens once in a while for artsy music type stuff- I've only been for electronic shows, but maybe other avant-gardey stuff too..

Check some of the smaller festivals, they sometimes do them at MCA, and ask the artists at those events where else they do shows...

Yeah, chach0, I'd say definitely join the chi-improv email list.

Tons of gig-spam (that's just about all it is, really), but you'll certainly be informed.

Also, definitely make it down to Fred Anderson's Velvet Lounge, if you can! Nothing too exciting this month, although that group with Malachi Favors (playing Thursdays) has been pretty great the couple times I've seen them.

Oh, and of course, you will want to join LAMPO's email list, as well.

They're putting on a show this Saturday, in fact. Not sure of the details.

That is a good group (Hanah Jon Taylor, Vince Davis, and Malachi Favors)...Hanah is from Madison, and Vince is an amazing drummer.

Danny's occasionally has live stuff, I've seen Oval, Scorces, Tom Carter/Plastic Crimewave, Jack Rose, and more there.

hstencil, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Vincent is amazing. I was gonna try to take lessons from him, but I never got my shit together.

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I'm playing at the Green Mill later this month, hopefully I can get a lesson from him the next day.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah? Post the details of yr gig! I love the Green Mill, but it seems it's seldom I venture up there.

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

if i'm not reading it wrong, looks like the gig at LAMPO is a solo violinist. i'd like to check out this vince davis, being a drummer myself. soeaking of which, anyone know if Hamid Drake is playing anywhere anytime soon?

cha, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Mama Digdown's Brass Band on Friday Nov. 21st, 9:00 pm. I love the Green Mill, I wish I was down there to see more shows. There's a pretty decent jazz jam afterwards, I think the house band starts at like 1:00 am (!).

(you should come!)

There's going to be a live music/experimental film show on campus this Saturday. Plastic Crimewave! Fursaxa!

When is WHPK going to have a webcast? I'm in Edgewater and have no hope of ever getting even the faintest blip from Hyde Park.

john'n'chicago, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

That is correct, stence.

Maybe this is the week where I buy a DAT recorder or something!
