the mighty DJ MAXXIMUS...

has a new album out under his DiN-ST alias today. it's called Yamu D'Din (i haven't figured it out yet, either) and it's on schematic. the cover is a photo of a moslem arch (how *YAWN* daring).

anyway i'm excited to hear it and wonder if anybody had or had any thoughts on it. is it the new rave renaissance (part XXVII) or just warmed-over drill'n'bass?

Is this the same guy who did "Armani Versaci vs. Mercedes Bentley"? That is an amazing track.

yes it is - but his other stuff hasn't been quite so thrilling, with the exception of his tresor ep, club goods pt.1 (featuring the "dj maxximus: rave is back remix")

I especially liked the flipside mix (?).

Where do/did you see this? Schematic's site makes it sound as though it's coming out next year.

Anyway he's pretty good (the Ambush stuff he did is better than you make it sound, the DHR stuff is um. . .) so it'll be somewhere from decent to possibly really good (although I would be mildly shocked if it was as good as the Club Goods or Tresor EP.)

it's on the brainwashed new releases list for nov. 4th

and schematic doesn't seem to update their website very often (last update september, if i'm reading it right)

haha which is worse:
'my red hot car' vs 'Armani Versaci vs. Mercedes Bentley'.

sqrpshr just tips it but it's a close run thing.

"Armani Versace vs Mercedes Bentley" was amazing but I always thought it was a one off. I had no idea he'd done anything since. What else is out there?

i'm with ambrose here - however, i liked red hot car more as a tune.
still, as i once wrote in a review (and subsequently had cut out of said review turning it into glowingly positive, ringing endorsement OF A SQUAREPUSHER RECORD - WITH MY BYLINE STILL ON IT!!!), it was never anywhere near as good as out of your mind by truesteppers feat. dane bowers and victoria beckam - they use ALL the same sounds, right down to the amen break!!! still, what the hell... i hated the armani versace vs mercedes bentley record without reservation...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

why did you hate it dave?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't like the way it sounded, it seemed like a pisstake, too "har de har aint we clever" for its own good and it bored me!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 November 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i do agree with the comments about squarepusher, though i didn't think dj maxximus was nearly as reliant on 2-step in making his track. i actually never thought of the track as very 2-steppy (though the subbass, dancehall sample and "dubplate remix" point in that direction). the original warp press release had it billed as a "ghettotech" track and the doubletime percussion in the 2nd half of the track borrows more blatantly from dj assault, i think, than the intro does from the truesteppers (to use a pick a random garage artist). of course, at the time i had no idea he also made tracks for ambush, etc. so what do i know.

have you heard the club goods ep?

"i didn't like the way it sounded, it seemed like a pisstake, too "har de har aint we clever" for its own good and it bored me"

wow thats almost exactly what i think about my red hot car. except i do it with more swearing and hatred.
