Both records are to be released on the same day. Who should be, and who will be victorious?

ach, I just posted my thoughts in one of the Black Album threads. fuck it, i'll just repost it here:

Jiggaman pulls another "the streets couldn't wait" publicity stunt, moving "Black Friday" up to November 14th, rather than the original date of Nov. 28th, says the usually reliable HipHopSite.

-- JoB (jobwi...), November 5th, 2003.

and now, a day later, 50 Cent has decided to push up the G Unit's release date to Nov. 14th as well, citing leaking as well (despite the fact that I haven't heard anything about Beg For Mercy leaking, while the Black Album spread like wildfire in the space of a day), and made some comment about how they have to satisfy demand for the album to come out sooner because he's the "hottest rapper", etc., which you pretty much can read between the lines here.

50 is clearly an asshole, I mean, that's kind of what his whole persona's based on, but he must be an idiot too. does he really think people are more eager to hear new Young Buck verses than the Black Album?

yeah, this one's stupid...a 50 cent album would be competitive, but lloyd banks? young buck? 2nd rate thugs with boring-as-hell delivery. and probably sub-par wooden eminem beats.

Sounds like Jigga to me.

And now you're old and foolish?

Boring-gesture album from a guy that hasn't had a hot song in two years vs. hot young guy, who's still got songs on the radio, with two of his friends!

d k (d k), Friday, 7 November 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I like boring gesture albums.

Also, hot song wise, Jay was on Crazy in Love, Frontin, and I heard both versions of Excuse me Miss on my local rap station all the time.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 7 November 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Why are you making excuses for him?

d k (d k), Friday, 7 November 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Beware of the Boys, Hovi Baby (that drive! those exploding corpses!) and arguably Excuse Me Again were the hottest songs of their moments, '03 Bonnie and Clyde a decent pop-rap single, Excuse Me Miss a great pop-rap single. now Jay's come with the Black Album he's finally come up with a record I can love without feeling politically guilty about it.

what G-Unit have is one great single whose harpsichord construction elevates its standard-issue bleary gangsta-threats to another level, fascinatingly cod-fascist, a chilling manifesto for a New Order which has very little to do with hip-hop at all, and other songs which sound a lot like "Stunt 101" but don't actually sound interesting, and therefore expose G-Unit's dependence on cliches and bored mumbles (albeit extremely commercially lucrative ones, at least for the moment). hardly comparable.

beautifully put...

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 7 November 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you explain why you felt 'politically guilty' about loving previous Jay-Z records but not this one?

d k (d k), Friday, 7 November 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

he took issue with his stance on war on the Panjabi MC remix, and doesn't appreciate the Che Guevera references, I guess.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 7 November 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

If "I'll Show You How to Stunt" or whatever it's called is any indication, the G-Unit record will be bland as hell. I remember being impressed with how little flossin' nonsense there was on "Get Rich..." so WTF?

antexit (antexit), Friday, 7 November 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

g-unit = gareth so he wins obv
