to be honest, absolutely nothing

'the kind of song where the protagonist desires that his lover haunt him, taunt him, and if at all possible, to consume him with a kiss of fire'

Myron Kosloff, Friday, 7 November 2003 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

hyssop is metioned in a michael nyman peice - i forget which though. "Purge me with hyssop and i will be clean"

jed (jed_e_3), Friday, 7 November 2003 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hyssop! The gayest herb ever.

antexit (antexit), Friday, 7 November 2003 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

"Purge me with Hyssop, and I shall be clean" is a quote from the bible. I like that line a lot, I like the sensual association of kissing with smell, it's very, uhh, Keats-ian, if I can say that without sounding like a tool. But shit, most of all I like the way Marcy Mays delivers it: the first bit's really anguished, but the second half sounds like surrender, like she's resigned to the torment of it all.

it means im listening to one of the greatest songs ever....

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Friday, 7 November 2003 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It means that Dulli is indulging his messiah wannabeism again. But from him it works.

Michael Nyman - "miserere", it was.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Sunday, 2 May 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 2 May 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
this may be my "one more time"

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, one of my favorite songs. The way her voice just cracks and shudders on "HYYYyy-sop" the second time around, it knifes you in the gut. She's caught between resignation and indignation, which is why the song has to be sung of course. Brrrr.

eleven months pass...

From a book I'm reading:

Hedge hyssop was widely known to be an abortifacient, for
which it would need to be taken in large doses, which would
have made it a very dangerous process. A case was recorded
where four women had been given a decoction of Gratiola as
an enema, by some herb doctors. One of the women suffered
violent vomiting and purging, and then became unconscious.
he noted another surprising side effect; that all the women
had a strong attack of nymphomania. In another case a
woman had constrictions of the throat and convulsions died
two days after taking the medicine. Hedge hyssop is no longer
used in general medical practice, but some homeopathic
doctors still use it for gastral problems.

as an aside, that Greg kicked (nearly) everyone out of this band is NAGL...

no steve/rick(nor marcy!), no credibility.

i mean, they’ve played “my curse” with marcy since the reunion. i think it was extremely unlikely they’d reunite with steve earle. and dulli’s explained why he couldn’t keep things going with rick mccollum, dude has red light fever, it was apparently one of the reasons they broke up to begin with

ivy., Saturday, 20 April 2024 14:26 (one year ago)

marcy appeared on the last album!

mookieproof, Sunday, 21 April 2024 00:18 (one year ago)

i haven't loved any of the reunion work but it was really good to see them back in whatever it was, 2015 or something. maybe I'll make it to the church/whigs tour this summer.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Sunday, 21 April 2024 00:31 (one year ago)
