... is the most unutterably gorgeous thing I have heard in month. I've listened to it seven times in a row and it makes me so happy.

I just wanted to say that.

Uh, isn't Wyatt's "At Last I Am Free" also a cover? Originally by Chic or the Sisters Sledge or something? Or am I really smoking the crack?

what is this from?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 7 November 2003 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah wyatt's is a rather radical reworking of the chic song.

i keep imagining this new cover to be too "ethereal".

anthony - it's from the rough trade records 25th anniversary covers album, just released. there's a thread on the album somewhere.

It's not "too ethereal" is the thing. (The cover, I mean.) It's freakin' gorgeous...right up there with "Primitive Painters" for non-Cocteaus Frazer tunes...amazing.

It's nice to see that she didn't stick w/ "Underwater."

L(E^24) (Leee), Friday, 7 November 2003 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah see i find "primitive painters" too ethereal but that's me i find everything too ethereal

but i'd like to hear this and the album it's from sounds interesting too

The Robert Wyatt cover isn't a radical overhaul of the Chic song - it's pretty faithful, apart from the fact that it's Wyatt singing it.

DoctorBq, Saturday, 8 November 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it sounds a lot different to me

amateur!st (amateurist), Saturday, 8 November 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
same pace, same melody, very different arrangement.

It's freakin' gorgeous...right up there with "Primitive Painters" for non-Cocteaus Frazer tunes...amazing.

Are you saying it's better than "Song to the Siren" and "Teardrop"? I've just had my first listen, and to be honest, I'm not too sure about that.

bert (bert), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 00:28 (twenty years ago)
