freeware audio editors?

I know soundforge is the obvious choice, but I only need it for about an evenings work and I do not want to deal with cracks or warez.

Basically, All I need is a visual audio editor for win2000pro that can handle .wav and .mp3 files, that will allow me to edit spoken word and cut and paste different sections of different recordings together. I don't need plug-in processing or multi-track capabilities.
Just your basic razor and tape functionality will do the trick. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

And the answer I came up with was Goldwave. I tried about 4 others and they either crashed my computer or their functionality was marginal at best.

I use Audcity for my light audio editing needs (tho I don't think it does MP3s) & it's okay. I have a six year old computer though. I'd love to try something better.
