I mean, I guess Genesis P. Orridge had something to do with it, right?

FETCH ME MY MATCHES!

So long as no one says "the KLF", no one gets burned.

"Grebo" the UK version of "geek" (US). Jesus Jones, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, PWEI (unfairly grouped); it wasn't a real genre, it was a reactionary name. With Mantronix and Kylie in the charts, what were they reacting to? I can see when US hair bands bitch about Nirvana invading their macho turf, but...

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Saturday, 8 November 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It was jockish geekdom, specifically.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 9 November 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"Grebo" is a truncation of "greasy boy," not "geek".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 9 November 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

no i'm pretty sure it's Greta Garbo.

tod (tod), Sunday, 9 November 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Bukowski?

Jeremy (Jeremy), Sunday, 9 November 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus Jones were more baggy than grebo, weren't they?

The Wonderstuff started out as grebo's though, even though they became more traditional melodic pop after a while.

Al Jourgensen's secret sartorial influence at the time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 9 November 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, at the time of this albu, Al was still clean-shaven, and wearing those silly flip-up glasses. The Zode was rockin' the hirsute heathen look well in advance, dagnabbit!
