DEADLINE TUESDAY WHEN THE MIDWEEKS COME OUT

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 9 November 2003 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

BRITNEY SPEARS - Me Against The Music #6 (oh Britney, why did you not release "Outrageous" or "Breathe On Me" first?)
OUTKAST - Hey Ya #20 (much to the chagrin of everyone with taste..)
BUSTED - Crashed The Wedding #1 (by all rights I should really like Busted, but I find them pedestrian. Why?)
MISSY ELLIOTT - Pass That Dutch #12 (Don't think this sort of stuff suits her, but what do I know?)
LUDACRIS - Stand Up #30 (another I like in theory but not in practice, except his cameos)
JAVINE - Surrender #8 (lor! corking pop hit alert! best single of the week.)
LINUS LOVES - Stand Back #18 (it was better before THAT voice was added!)
RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS - Fortune Faded #10 (not heard this, don't want to, just wildly specualting)
STEREOPHONICS - Since I Told You It's Over #14 (worst band in the world etc)
BASEMENT JAXX - Lucky Star #27 (I don't get Dizzee Rascal, I admit it, I prefer "Good Luck", so sue me!)
RONAN KEATING - Lost For Words #5 (terrible, even by his normally very low standards)

#7: Black Eyed Peas

Best charting single will be Abs! Yay for Abs! Or something, even though I really do like 7 Ways an awful lot. It'll probably be #12 or so.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 9 November 2003 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

BRITNEY SPEARS - Me Against The Music #1
OUTKAST - Hey Ya #8 (it's fab; even heard it on R1 today, in the show prior to the chart)
BUSTED - Crashed The Wedding #3 (willing them to fail; to spite Wes really, as well as the fact that i can't stand their insipid mould of 'nu-rock'-ish pop. )
MISSY ELLIOTT - Pass That Dutch #16
LUDACRIS - Stand Up #26
JAVINE - Surrender #6
LINUS LOVES - Stand Back #17
RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS - Fortune Faded #11
STEREOPHONICS - Since I Told You It's Over #15 (61 places too high!)
BASEMENT JAXX - Lucky Star #32
RONAN KEATING - Lost For Words #7

Random number - #7: K. Lyttle
#1: Britney Spears, #2: Kylie... hopefully Busted kept out. If they make #1, God help us with Wes' response to that. :-/

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 9 November 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

BRITNEY SPEARS - Me Against The Music = 1 (no discernible hook, unless you count Madonna's cameltoe, bwahahaha)
OUTKAST - Hey Ya = 2 (could be #1 but i dunno, maybe it's not as good as it's cracked up to be after all? too goofy, and the video's almost creepy)
BUSTED - Crashed The Wedding = 3 (sounds like it was written and recorded all in one day, but hey so were 'Chime' and 'Voodoo Ray')
MISSY ELLIOTT - Pass That Dutch = 9 (bloody awesome as ever)
LUDACRIS - Stand Up = 17 (the video to this is intensely distubing and makes me wonder if Luda is an apologist for seedy Kellyesque shenanigans, brrrr)
JAVINE - Surrender = 7 (i like her voice, still better than Girls Alahd for me)
LINUS LOVES - Stand Back = 13 (vocals are quite sweet, i'm loving the Stevie Nicks original too now)
RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS - Fortune Faded = 14 (yawn)
STEREOPHONICS - Since I Told You It's Over = 24 (zzzzz)
BASEMENT JAXX - Lucky Star = 20 (should be #1, the best British pop single this year)

Abs will chart highest.

I don't even begin to understand what people like about Busted, each single is more hacky and diluted than the last, they need something as meaty as Sk8er Boi maybe. Everything they do is slightly too krazy and quirky and they're really starting to play up to it now, they were coooooler and more smoulder-y a year or so ago.

Hyperprops to Outkast, BJaxx greatest single of week and glorious work of metagenius bleh bleh etc.

I don't even begin to understand what people like about Busted, each single is more hacky and diluted than the last

I detested them when they came out but 'Crashed and Burned' was a great single, I thought. This one is pretty much a feeble retread of that. I find that Javine single perplexing. The groove on the verse is good but then it drops into that cheesy Diana Ross chorus which hasn't grown on me at all. As for Abs, he annoys me with his arrogance and fake street accent but the last couple of singles have been pretty good.

No predictions, just comments.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

BRITNEY SPEARS - Me Against The Music #1 (a somewhat cagey choice from me, based mainly around the fact that I WANT BUSTED TO FAIL and also because I don't think the Kylie song feels like a long-staying #1)
OUTKAST - Hey Ya #7 (I wish it would be #1, though)
BUSTED - Crashed The Wedding #2
MISSY ELLIOTT - Pass The Dutch #9 (why the fuck didn't you mention this at the end of the chart on Sunday, Butters? she's had five Top 10 hits this decade)
LUDACRIS - Stand Up #17 (part of me wishes it would go higher, the other finds it terrifying)
JAVINE - Surrender #6 (I do actually love the Diana Ross original, not least because she'd only recently left the Supremes at the time - 1971 - and had not yet become DIANA ROSS in the latterday pejorative sense)
LINUS LOVES - Stand Back #26
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - Fortune Faded #11
STEREOPHONICS - Since I Told You It's Over #16
BASEMENT JAXX - Lucky Star #18
RONAN KEATING - Lost For Words #5 (but will then drop rapidly)

#7 - Outkast (see above)

which charts highest: ABS - 7 Ways

the Melanie C song will do perhaps marginally better than the last Appleton single. the Seal song is currently Top 10 in Germany but I can't see him replicating that here at all; he is the black Sting, the pop Enya, huge in Britain at a very specific time and now big everywhere but here, seemingly.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Cannot find the midweeks anywhere, so we're staying open for a little bit...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen some of them just now...Shall I tell???

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

where have you seen them? tell me that much!

zappi von trappi (joni), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it too late for me to revise my prediction for Britters and say that it'll go #4 as people will NOT wait for the album this time?

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm... the usual place ain't yielding owt. Still, if they've been sighted - BETTING ENDS.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Have seen a set of midweeks. However, the chances are that they are a filthy great fib.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they the ones with Missy Elliot at Number 40?

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup. And without Basement Jaxx or Linus Loves.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Ludacris, or PRML SCRM...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

These are the ones I've seen. But I really cant belive some of the placings and they also seem to have some of the songs titles wrong.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, just seen another, far more probable set of midweeks. The ones here would therefore appear to be of a deeply bollocks nature.

Incidentally, can we not post the midweeks here plz - first cos it sort of wrecks the suspense, second cos we might cop some shit for it from official types (cf. Popjustice board)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

BALLS. I forgot about last weeks and it looks like I've missed this one too. Guh-ted.

iAN SPACK, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

And we're off this week with -

The Cooper Temple Clause. #37.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I read somewhere that Abs wasn't actually out this week.. was it? If it wasn't, can we suckers who said would get highest get some kind of refund?

Britney has gone #1 in a few places around the world, but she won't here. I hope. Even though I love her.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Wes is already off on being a tit this week, BTW. Still hasn't worked out how to pronounce "Thoia Thoing" (after said mispronunciation he then plays Step In The Name Of Love), and has taken to yelling "G-UNEHHHHH!" in a hilarious manner. Also, he's breached his contract, but more on that later.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Linus Loves is #31.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Which gets 10 for Joni, obviously.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Busted rule.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god, I LOVE STACIE ORRICO.

lid, Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, he's breached his contract, but more on that later.

is this a reference to the pink track he played?

joni (joni), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Erm, yup. He failed to aplogise for it...

And Elephant Man is #29.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

And Wes is playing Liberty X. Well done Wes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Mel C #27. And here comes our first "Westerview" of the afternoon. They have a hilarious conversation about Alanis Morrissette's mobile number.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaxx & Dizzee #23. 5 for Siegbran, 1 each for Neil and The Fish.

This puts Siegbran in the lead, BTW.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: Abs - if he's not in the top 75 when that goes up, then the 'highest position' race gets nixed for this week, yeah.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Considering the midweeks posted above don't feature him, I'd imagine it's being scrapped this week, then.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

found this

"'7 Ways' has been pulled from release on 10 November and no future release date has been given as yet. The explanation was the bad timing against other major releases, the distraction of the fall music awards shows and Abs doing this sudden tour with Beyonce which cuts way down on his promotion time."

some pretty weak excuses there!

zappi (joni), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what happens when you desert Northern Soul...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The Stereophonics are #16. 10 for Fat Bob, 5 for Tom, Alex and Flowers, and 1 for Siegbran and Ed. Alex moves back into the lead by three points, with Siegbran and Flowers in joint 2nd.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Javine #15, 5 for Neil and The Fish.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ludacris is #14. 10 for Alex.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Right. Just after posting that, I was called up for dinner. I am now a whole fourteen entries behind...

Busted are #1, Wes was about as over the moon as he usually is. Britney #2, Outkast #6, Ronan #9, Missy #10, RHCP #11 or #12.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

And #7 - Blazin' Squad.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I took the "breached his contract" to be a reference to his plugging his appearance in some film (again), but the BBC is far less uptight about these things than it was even a decade ago, so maybe not.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 16 November 2003 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

also I think he was pissed off that he couldn't have Boosted-Through-Constant-Plugging on throughout the show, because they were on Hit40UK. he did an excruciating intro into Blazing Squad based around the fact that they were switching on the Christmas lights in Birmingham ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 16 November 2003 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

RCHP #11, as it turns out.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Too many Wes gaffes to list or to care about really... he claimed that he was 'starring' in "Love Actually", when it seems it's only a cameo that will take up seconds rather than minutes.

Some excellent records on the charts this week; things only really tempered by Busted, whom the cretinous Wes deserves.

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 16 November 2003 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Best Wes moment during 'Stereophonics quiz': question is "what is the name of the Stereophonics' first album?" Caller answers 'Word Gets Around,' but Wes tells her to "Shut up" so he can read out the comedy multiple choices.

Tool.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am listening to Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems again. Why?
