Satellite (and to a lesser extent, Staring At The Sun) are more uptempo, and yep, quite a lot better.
Some of the arrangements are really intriguing - the songs never quite kick into overdrive at the times you'd expect most bands too - they just sorta float in and out, quite restrained. I like the gospel element too.

I predict TV on the Radio - to do a Mars Volta in 2004. i.e release a stunning epic & expansive album - that many different types will like.

As long as it doesn't actually sound like the Mars Volta, I'm on board.

-- djmartian, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 21:38 (1 hour ago) Link
sounds good though i hope the slick production won't ruin the impression.
are tv on the radio turning more accessible?
― Zeno, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 22:43 (seventeen years ago)
very good song. but...is this a drum machine? the drums kinda sucks anyway. and more guitars please on the rest of the album
― Zeno, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

― Shin Oliva Suzuki, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 13:44 (seventeen years ago)
the last album was too long and didn't have enough hooks; sounded good but also kind of seemed like a mess. more melodies, please (sorry for sounding like geir)

Woah. SNL performance was unlistenable. Were their monitors broken or is that how the song is supposed to sound?
― scott pgwp (pgwp), Sunday, 8 February 2009 08:16 (sixteen years ago)
That had to be it (broken monitors). I thought for a little bit that maybe my hearing was just off and I wasn't picking up necessary frequencies or something, so I'm actually relieved to see other people complain about how bad it was.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 8 February 2009 08:35 (sixteen years ago)
how many weeks in a row is a thread about the snl band going to be bumped w/ the bumper saying "wow they sucked on snl tonight what was up?" before we just chalk everything up to the obv fact that the snl sound ppl don't have any idea how to do anything right
― your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:29 (sixteen years ago)
Um I think in this case the problem was an inability to sing in tune.
― nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Sunday, 8 February 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)
he cant really sing as well as a lot of people seem to think tbh.
― p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:04 (sixteen years ago)
'hes so soulful!' etc
― p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:05 (sixteen years ago)
Makes me wonder how many vocal takes and how much cutting and pasting goes on in the studio.
Still, I think last night can be attributed to broken monitors.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:07 (sixteen years ago)
most of his vocals always sound quite treated or like theyve been put through a certain effect (wish i knew what exactly but i think its why people used to say he sounded like peter gabriel -they have that kinda double-tracked/boxed sound).
― p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:15 (sixteen years ago)
My kids are currently having a "sing like beardy guy from TV on the Radio" contest. It's pretty terrilarious.

i <3 that "wolf like me" performance from letterman.
― Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 8 February 2009 20:40 (sixteen years ago)
i, too, enjoyed the Letterman performance and thought last night was an atrocity. seemed to me that he was just plain having trouble with the vocals; didn't the tempo seem awful brisk to anybody else? maybe that was a factor. i can't believe a broken monitor for one song would cause ~that~ much trouble- it's not like that band plays as loud as Motorhead, for example...
― outdoor_miner, Sunday, 8 February 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)
yeah "Wolf Like Me" on Letterman was good
― I cut my hand on a low-hanging disco ball (The Reverend), Sunday, 8 February 2009 22:04 (sixteen years ago)
He does sound a lot better on record, but I actually thought he (Tunde) sounded a lot worse on the new record than on the first two albums. Especially Dancing Choose - that grating first couplet or so makes me change tracks pretty quickly and prefer their older stuff.
― throwbookatface (skygreenleopard), Monday, 9 February 2009 20:52 (sixteen years ago)
Beardyman also got a lot more time to shine on the new one, too
