SEARCH:

Great Phone Calls - LP, CD (original issue), and CS
All had different content. the cassette in my opinion had the best tracklist and bonus material.

Harvey Sid Fisher - Astrology Songs LP
Totally amazing astrolo-pop, see also the video with interpretive dancing from some los angeles area "student dancers". i gave this to hstencil a few years ago, i hope he likes it.

Anton LaVey - Strange Music & Satan Takes A Holiday (both LPs)
amazing diabolical (literally!) synth odyssey, a wall of keyboard noise with Anton's (founder of the Church of Satan) new devilry.

Neil Hamburger - Looking For Laughs 7"
the pinnacle of mr. hamburger's comedic jesus.

hmmm, i had some choices but Ghostinternetland swallered dem up . . . here's a revised version with jus' musick . . .

US Saucer -- thorazine country, all three albums: My Company Is Misery , Tender Places Come From Nothing , Hell Yes

Zip Code Review and the Three Doctors' Band post Zip Code Rapists feud and the three records created at the time.

The New Session People Famous Songs From Days Gone -- Old timey organ hits with crooners including Turkington with Sun City Girls involvement.

Faxedhead -- Coalinga's Finest and a Heart Rending Example of Overcoming Incredible Odds

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

second the US Saucer, they were great. Was Tarnation's first record on Amarillo? That record is nice, too.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

tarnation's first was on brandan kearney's nuf sed, another fine label.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Amarillo was also responsible for keeping the Sun City Girls "Midnight Cowboys from Ipanema" in print for a few years (is that a Search or Destroy? YOU make the call).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Nuf Sed put out the first Virgina Dare 10" which was about 10 years ahead/20 years behind it's time.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Midnight Cowboys. "Sweet City Woman" on there is a thing of wonder.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Midnight Cowboys is definitely not a casual listen for me. I have to be in the food. In fact, I would say its not even an alone listen -- its best served with appreciate friends listening and drinking with you.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"in the food"!!! ;-D

MORE AMARILLO SEARCH:
TFUL282 "Everyday" b/w "A Fistful Of Dollars"
Great skewed pop backed with Morricone cover done exquisitely.

The Zip Code Rapists Play And Sing The Matador Records Catalog 7"
Jon and Gregg "covering" Pavement, Liz Phair, Bettie Seveert but taking an honest stab at TFUL282's "Hurricane".
Released on "Ecstatic Piss" which was really Amarillo.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

also, yeah, VIrginia Dare is pretty awesome -- both of the Nuf Sed eps and the album on Absolutely Kosher. their bass player is pretty OK in my book too. ;-)

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

haha - in the food!!!! SCG would be proud of you, jack.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I said it on that other thread, but search that Today's Sounds 45. Derrick Bostrom from the Meat Puppets covers Buckner & Garcia.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

my stomach refuses to be denied, leaking into ghostinternetland like a bad cold.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The Zip Code Rapists Play And Sing The Matador Records Catalog 7"
Jon and Gregg "covering" Pavement, Liz Phair, Bettie Seveert but taking an honest stab at TFUL282's "Hurricane".
Released on "Ecstatic Piss" which was really Amarillo.

But bankrolled by Matador, I think.

Ever heard of Jaco Pastorius? BUDDY?!

"in the food"... shishkebab then? Woulda firmly sed Destroy to Midnight Cowboys from Ipanema due to my intoxication with SCG's ethno-psych-warp from 3 yrs back, and being thoroughly disgusted with the evacuation present on the Amarillo record ("I spent $3.50 on this?!"). Pulled it out last night, and like Jack had suggested, bearing it upon company is the BEST maneuver possible - we laughed our asses off. I've been playing it on and off all day and have come to the conclusion their take on "Tell me something good" is THE definitive version. Plus for some inexplicable reason "Love Train" makes me real wistful. Honest!

if my turntable had a playcount, that LP would probably beat everything else by a count of 3:1

Not sure where else to post this but I ordered this 560page tome from Will and it's en route:

...and Gerard had Will on his normally hour long podcast that stretches to almost 2.5 hours for this episode.
