Muddy Waters: 'Folk Singer' C/D

Just picked this one up at the store, listening to it now. Its w. Willie Dixon on Bass and Buddy Guy on second guitar. Most of the tracks don't have drums. It seems really cool and subtle, but I somehow feel that's something is lacking, when I compare this with the best folk blues of, say, Sonny Boy Williamson. Maybe it's the production, maybe it's the voice, maybe it's his timing. But I miss a little ... sharpness? Edge? Twang?

Thoughts? Comments?

Ive never heard the CD in question but before you make a decision about Muddy's folk blues, pick up his 'Complete Plantation Recordings'

I should say that they are field recordings by the legendary Alan Lomax.. when 'portable' recording equipment was larger than your refrigerator..dont expect the fidelity of a modern day recording (I think these were recorded to aluminum platters, but I could be wrong)
