why is jamiroquais style changing its MAD

Mr. Mastodon Farm, Saturday, 1 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean he got bored with being Stevie Wonder as dressed by a mad haberdasher? Do tell. Everywhere I went in London I saw another fucking "Little L" poster.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 2 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tomorrow I am going for an EEG test. I need to check if my brain is still working.See, I find "Little L" quite catchy. The handclaps, the nasty lyrics,...

I have to say... "A Funk Odyssey", Jamiroquai's 2001 offering, is not bad at all. Aside from the three snoozy soft songs, the rest is a nice slick, smooth, robotic little journey. And the singer's style is far less "HEY! PAY ATTENTION TO MY SOOOOUUUULLLLLFUL VOICE!" than before.

I won't argue against those who'd say Daft Punk got the disco crown of '01, but "A Funk Odyssey" is certainly an underrated contribution from last year. Thoughts?

I forgot to add. I can understand if that goddamn irritating video with the slighting white walls made you pass a harsh first judgement on this group(?), but the latest stuff had me reconsider...

Brian MacDonald, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I admit he's less immediately obnoxious than before. Now he just grows on you like a slowly spreading rash.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

lets be honest though, since he ditched acid jazz and went disco, he's, well, you know, he's kind of, um, quite good. c'mon, the big single of that last album had all the paradise garage paraphenlia and shit, i know you liked it. j=the guiltiest pleasure of all???

why do people always say hes like stevie wonder? i never really thought that, ever.

and musically, he was always on the jazzier cti/gil scot heron/roy ayers side of things than stevie. before he got rid of that and went more late 70s and more disco-y that is.

titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

that singles compilation is quite brilliant IMO. makes a good case that hes gets taken the piss out of quite unfairly. blow your mind, cosmic girl, little l, canned heat, all CLASSIC!

A Suffolk chef has admitted causing an estimated £30,000 damage to a £1m Ferrari belonging to Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay.

Aaron Billington, 21, of Aldeburgh, admitted causing criminal damage to the Ferrari Enzo outside a hotel in the town where the singer had been staying.

Lowestoft Magistrates' Court heard Billington committed the crime in a "moment of madness" early on Tuesday.

He said he became upset by "offensive" remarks the singer made.

More like "offensive records" amirite?
