a friend of mine's got a band called Sarah E 203 that started out as death metal with a flute, but has mellowed down to metal with a flute (and i think a clarinet) at some point over the past 4 or 5 albums.

The fucking awful band that played my prom. What were they called? Soul Jam? Night Soul? No idea. The woman who sang also played flute, generally where the guitar solos would have gone had there been guitar solos. They were horrible. I'm convinced our class advisor hated us and was trying to make us cry. But we voted "Back in the High Life" as our prom theme, so I guess we deserved it.

Although they don't have a flute player as a regular member or anything, I guess Saint Etienne may count?

Rusted Root had a flute player. Or maybe still has. Are they still around? If so, why?

(this from someone who once considered them his favorite band, mind ye)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

For only-the-best-in-flute-playing, I recommend Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Motherfucker WAILED on that shit, sometimes with his NOSE.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm. There is some flute on "Too-Rye-Ay", but it doesn't seem the flute was a permanent part of Dexy's Midnight Runners or Emerald Express.
