Quadrophonia was miles better.

Particularly the Who album, yes...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I know how to spell Quadrophenia, Geir

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I got a little carried away there. Change it to "Technotronic have certain flaws" or something.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

and then lock it
and then buy me a pizza

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

haha yeah 'technotronic have certain flaws', i like that!

minna (minna), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of which, did Technotronic invent the "pumping" bass drum sound that was so typical of early 90s Eurodance, or did somebody do the same sound before them?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

T99 > Quadrophonia

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 November 2003 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the major flaw with Technotronic was that they didn't have a sampler!!!!! Which meant that Yah Kid K always had to impersonate it in the "instrumental" bits, so you get a lot of her shouting: "PUMP UP THA JAM!!!! YO!!!! PUMP IT UP!!!!! YO!!!! PUMP IT!!! PUMP IT!!!! PUMP IT!!!!! etc" and suchlike, which to be honest was a little painful to listen to!!!!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Thursday, 13 November 2003 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think Ya Kid K ever exclaimed that much, her tone was more sarcastic and nonchalant ala "Yeah...pump up the jam...you're shit i'm better than you...whatever man"

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 November 2003 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

her?

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Thursday, 13 November 2003 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

jk!

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Thursday, 13 November 2003 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

B-b-b-b-but Ya Kid K is the one...!

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 13 November 2003 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think Ya Kid K ever exclaimed that much, her tone was more sarcastic and nonchalant

Don't mind the tone at all, it's just that's it sounds a bit better if one doesn't attempt to manually enunciate it in a half-hearted sampler-vocal-cut-up-style!!!! It's pretty obvious that the bit in after the second chorus is supposed to be a sample cutup bit it's also obvious that it's being done manually by Yah Kid K herself in realtime!!!!!! The reason the latter is so obvious is because it's not particularly convincingly executed!!!!!

Can you imagine how crap Paul Hardcastle's "19" would be if he hired actors to actually say "Ninininininininininenteen-nineteen, nineteen... nineteen!!!" into tha microphone?!?!?! I mean, if the dude in Technotronic couldn't afford a sampler, couldn't he just do it the old fashioned way with tape edits of the vocals?!?!?! Instead, we've got Ya Kid K having to do it all by herself with just her voice and a mic, and it's not really very good- in fact, she sounds a little embarrassed to be honest!!!!!!!

The other bits where she's not attempting to be an SL-2 are good though!!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Thursday, 13 November 2003 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"bit it's also obvious"

=

"but it's also obvious"

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Thursday, 13 November 2003 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

why so excitable?!!!!

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 November 2003 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

EXCITABLE?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Thursday, 13 November 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Nevertheless, "Pump Up The Bitter" rules...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Change the title? This is the best thread title I've seen in weeks!

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

you mean the one it is now or the one it used to be involving corn eating?

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. I must've missed the first title. The "compromise" title is funny enough.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

This flaw is.
This flaw is.
This flaw is Technotronic.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I preferred Technotronic when I thought Felly was rapping.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Friday, 14 November 2003 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i think "pump up the jam" was the start of the 'featuring' meme. i'm 100% sure that the first time i saw it used was "Technotronic feat. Felly"

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 14 November 2003 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, "featuring" goes back to the start of the chart, though there was a degree of permanency in a lot of the acts. The more traditional two-acts-for-one-or-two-singles only has been going for a while before Technotronic launched their Belgian aceness on the world.

"Featuring" would be a hilariously not good name for a band. (Hands off, it's mine! if it's not already taken)

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 14 November 2003 05:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I will call myself Fee Turing and feature on your first track.

Other deliberate attempts to confuse:

Various Artists
DJ DJ
The The
Unknown
Bootleg Beatles

I have always wanted to start a band called David Bowie. Let him sue!!!

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Friday, 14 November 2003 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

another one would be "Many More"

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 14 November 2003 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"OST"

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 14 November 2003 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

And our Number One this week comes from Various Artists featuring Featuring and Many More...

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 14 November 2003 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that ya kid k is the one!eventhough i never seen her but i heard her voice, and i still remember that i used to hear her voice.and i think she's very pretty and a marvelous singer ever.there's no female rappers like her now, when i was 2 she was 17,and now thati'm 15 she's 30.i really like u ya kid k,and i hope to meet u someday.......and remeber ur still "ya kid k is the one"!

rocio prado, Saturday, 15 November 2003 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Ya Kid K is the best. Its the best Voice that i heard in my life . HEY ROCIO! You check out www.nenemusik.com pop&dance - ya kid k
theres a foto from ya kid k in 2003. She looks like great and very
female

Tomtom3002, Saturday, 15 November 2003 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ya Kid k was now times the best at the beginning of the 90's. It was 2 times at the same time once with technotronic and that with hi tek 3 spin that wheel into the UK Charts . Their career ended after it a baby had gotten in the year 91 and then dedicated itself to the family. Ya Kid K would be today a superstar. Each single had release at that time you with or without Technotronic exploded to a hit!

dannydelicio, Saturday, 15 November 2003 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Tomtom, you're not tsr tomas from No Future by any chance??

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 15 November 2003 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Tomtom3002, Saturday, 15 November 2003 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i really like u ya kid k,and i hope to meet u someday

the mind-bendingly GREAT tradition of googlers addressing the artist directly continues

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 15 November 2003 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

haha! "googlers", plural? In this case, uh, no.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 15 November 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

nate I refuse to believe wrote all three of those posts, it would make the world even more confusing to me than it already is

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 15 November 2003 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

That's more confusing to you than the prospect of an armada of fanatical Ya Kid K obsessives?

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 15 November 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

well sure - I mean, I generally just assume there's an armada of Ya Kid K obsessives lurking just around the next corner

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 15 November 2003 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It would be if there was only one of them.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the other one's mostly about making fun of someone's English.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, remember, there were about eight of them. The joke got kind of tired.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(granted, I started one of those, and it seems to be one of the only ones left)

nate detritus (natedetritus), Sunday, 16 November 2003 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

denzel washington, cuba gooding,jr.,and other black actors from today, and the acting from today is not good,is junk.and it wasn't like the 70's where actors dressed like fagots, and they did not have to exagerate when acting or doing when moving, everething was natural.people have forgotten that ya phet k was the first black bond vilain, and was an excellent actor, and his clothes and his voice was excellent! he will always be on my mind, and to me he will be considered the first mainstream bad motherfucker forever, ther's no one like ya phet k!

Technotronic sucked anyway, but Ya Kid K made them worse. Would have been a bit better if they had a (preferrably male) singer instead of a female rapper.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it was her alter-ego, Naw Kid K, that caused all the trouble in the first place

rocio prado (rocio prado), Saturday, 5 June 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

we were just listening to technotronic last night in my friend's basement. i love the synth stabs at the beginning of "pump up the jam"

jake in portland (cerybut), Sunday, 6 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Here's a dancefloor. Get on it"

But what if it's an extremely crowded dancefloor with no room to show off one's dancing skeelz properly? Or what if somebody's gone and spilt beer on it, so "getting on it" would result in falling over and possibly fracturing a limb?

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 6 June 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

what if you over-pumped the jam, causing it to explode?

jake in portland (cerybut), Sunday, 6 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

"what if, what if...if only, if only...if only my nan had bollocks she'd be my grandad"
