CNN: "Perhaps another punk age may be just a paradigm away"!

I read that and decided it needed no attention.

re: rolling stones. is 'black and blue' really their nadir as this piece claims? maybe a new thread. hmm.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The opening paragraphs made me laugh and laugh. "deadpan tales about psycho killers and reading books"! It's even funnier if you imagine it read in a George Plimpton voice.

On the other hand: rockcrit in major public venue punk album review calling disco (even with "early" qualifier) "good" uber-shocker!!!!

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Their '70s nadir, maybe. I'm almost inclined to agree, if only because their only other "bad" '70s albums had tracks I love way too much -- Goat's Head Soup with "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" and It's Only Rock and Roll's "Time Waits For No One".

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i really like 'goats head soup' but from what i read, i'm in the minority on that one. 70's nadir is fair i think. career nadir (live albums aside) i'd have to go with 'dirty work.' dud.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Dirty Work is mostly unrememberably poor. Goat's Head Soup is the most underrated one apart from Tattoo You.

This was in the news recently because of the Sex Pistol's obvious exclusion. In fact, the name of the box set came from Lydon's response to being asked to provide Pistols tracks for the box set.

I only just now learned that "Waiting On A Friend" (one of my five favorite Stones songs ever) was an outtake from GHS. If it'd made it on there, it might be a bit more worthy a followup to Exile.

In fact, the name of the box set came from Lydon's response to being asked to provide Pistols tracks for the box set.

That is the funniest shit ever.

My favorite quote from the byline..

"And let's be honest: 'Never Mind the Bollocks' -- the punk equivalent of 'Sgt. Peppers'....."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 13 November 2003 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, I wouldn't even expect this from a certain local alt weekly music section writer who shall remain nameless (or better yet, renamed "maimless")

(key words: "rhythm", "sound", "most", and "influential")
