Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave stop doing this to me I've yet to even see the Ward 21 album!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen it and bought it and it's just as good as (if not better than) the last one. I'm not buying the Kartel album though as he has no less than EIGHT tracks on the new Greensleeves collection and almost all of them are on Up 2 Di time.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Irritatingly the Alozade, Hollow Point & Mr Vegas remake of "Under Mi Sensi" (which is fantastic) is ALSO the lead track on 600% Dynamite DESPITE being on both Ragga Ragga Ragga 2003 AND Biggest Ragga Dancehall Anthems 2003. Some much redundancy. Sigh.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

AND on that MJ Cole mixed Muzik cd! Why didn't "Cellular Minutes" get this sort of exposure?!?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha well that's EASY. CELL PHONE trax can't hope to compete with GANJA trax!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to Toranna to buy some fahhtyfives this weekend. I've heard the Kartel...it's purty good.

cybele (cybele), Friday, 14 November 2003 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, it's so good!!! i've also noticed why i like him so much - vybz probably wouldn't thank me for this, but in amongst all the macho stuff there's actually something really cute and endearing about his flow... a bit mischievous and fun in there.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 14 November 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
i'm listening to this for the first time and really enjoying it. Sen On is great. Robbery and it's 'theft' of the Busta Rhymes vocal styling is great.

from the little bits of Dizzee i've heard, Vybz's flow and voice reminds me of his a bit

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Why you doing it?
When you know you shouldn't be doing it?
Why you chewing it?
When you should be screwing it?

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Why you keep on doing it?
You know you shouldn't try
Why you treat your girls
And eat your girls like they were pie?

K's article today in the Times is fantastic.

He _is_ great. Breast Specialist comes to mind immediately as a good gateway drug.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 March 2006 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

can someone please erase those three posts of mine?

team jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 10 March 2006 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

The only thing I question in that great -- GREAT -- article is whether 2002 was when Vybz "first" started making hits. He was on Kardinal Offishall's "Kill Bloodclott Bill" mixtape already in 2003, i.e. he was already famous. Surely he was laying down vocals in Jamaica much earlier than that?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 10 March 2006 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

New album is outstanding! All killer.

JoB (JoB), Friday, 10 March 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Vybz used to engage in homosexual-bashing lyrics (K did not mention this in his nice article)? I think I read somewhre that he's staying away from that now though.

curmudgeon (DC Steve), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, he did. I'm pretty sure it's more that the Greensleeves and VP agreed to not release overtly homophobic releases (rather than any conscious choice on Vybz part.) There are no anti-oral sex songs on this album either.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 10 March 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

There's a line in "Rough Sex" (the last track) that goes "I'll kiss your nipples too, that's all that I will kiss", so I guess there's been no real change of heart in that department...

JoB (JoB), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

he'll eat it out, but no kissing.

o -- (eman), Friday, 10 March 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

Vybz's cunnilingophoba always struck me as (unintentionally) comically camp. It's like he's afraid he might never come back!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 10 March 2006 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

"can someone please erase those three posts of mine?"

Haha why? Do you not like the album anymore? Or are you just embarrassed for quoting it?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 10 March 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

Kelefa neglects to mention that a fair number of songs are the suuuuck.

Confounded (Confounded), Friday, 10 March 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

embarrassed mostly. just hate going back and reading posts from a few years ago when i didn't know what the hell i was talking about.

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 11 March 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

there's a thread from a while back where i'm just totally dissing disco & dancey period funkadelic/parliament

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 11 March 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 11 March 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

charlie bucket (charlie bucket), Sunday, 12 March 2006 03:49 (nineteen years ago)
