Live Cure Covers

In the 12 years that I have been going to rock shows, I can't recall ever having heard a band cover a Cure song until two nights ago when I heard Death Cab for Cutie play "Love Song". What bands have you heard include Cure songs in their live set?

(Forgive me if this topic has been posted before. It seems like the kind of thing that might have already been discussed around here, but I've never seen it.)

perfect circle has a hybrid cover of "lovesong" and "diary of a madman" somewhere out there (its a live performance). i think its the best thing theyve ever done (aside from that nurse song, maybe)

Tori Amos did "Lovesong" and any number of horrible US "indie" bands have obliterated "Boys Don't Cry" and "Just Like Heaven". Covers Project.

Robert Plant covers "Lullaby".

theres a really weird tv advert at the moment for bbc4, features 'famous' (i.e. i've never heard of em but maybe they are) jazz people covering 'friday i'm in love'.

"Page and Plant" worked it into their set when Porl Thompson was playing guitar for them. That's a lowpoint for all concerned.

Surely Page's low point would have been the Coverdale-Plant collaboration, the rockist equivalent of dating someone who looks just like your ex.

There was a whole cover album of Cure songs about 5-7 years ago with a bunch of indie bands, including the Dismemberment Plan.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes but the thread is about live covers NA. That comp - Give Me The Cure - was awful apart from that mildly interesting hybrid of "Let's Go To Bed" and "Close to Me" you mention.

Josh Rouse covers "A Forest" -- appears on Beyond Cold Blue Stars.

Pumpkins have done "Boys Don't Cry," Counting Crows (eurgh) somehow managed not to massacre "Six Different Ways," and I believe the Alkaline Trio have done "The Exploding Boy."

Coverdale: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Plant: UUUUHHH! UHHH! UUUUUUHHH! UUUUH!

Tawny doesn't look quite like you might remember her:

!!!!!!!

I'd still watch her dance nasty on the hood of a car...we'd just have to use a puke green 1978 Buick Skylark this time.

those two dudes aren't up on a lot of teen girl's walls either.

Wayne Hussey apparently does "A Night Like This" as part of his live acoustic set. I bet its awful.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Friday, 14 November 2003 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

josh rouse has done other Cure covers live as well, can't recall them offhand though. Smiths ones too.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 14 November 2003 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Small Factory used to do a fake-out where they'd start to play their big hit (relative term) "Suggestions" but then turn it into In Between Days.

dlp9001, Friday, 14 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Had to double check, but S. Malkmus and his Jicks also do a cover of In Between Days live.
