Listening to "Good Mourning" this morning, it's a decent enough album, but a 15 year old me would have been obsessed by Alkaline Trio.

So, yeah. Yourselves?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 13 November 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Jay-Z

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

A 15 year old me was into Howard Jones and Thompson Twins, and would have had one Hell of a job to find something at all that would appeal to me.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

probably zwan, but maybe, just maybe a perfect circle

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate to say it, but I'd probably like the ever-so-shouty Billy Talent and Brand New or something.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked Rush alot, so maybe Tool.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

If Geir tries to kiss me now I shall kill myself.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

something australian and up-and-coming.

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

My 15-year-old self wasn't that much into The Beatles. Sure they were good for a 60s band and all that, but... :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

probably Deftones or something.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

though I was into Jesus and Mary Chain and New Order when I was 15...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

when i was 15 my favorite band was beat happening. i think i would really like belle and sebastian or the shins or something if i was 15 today. i'd also enjoy the new justin timberlake record but not tell anyone.

mallory bourgeois (painter man), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Coldplay, probably.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Busted, Robbie Williams and Avril Lavigne.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

then: Prince, so now: OutKast, probably

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Same as then would be now: Killing Joke

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Um... probably someone rub. 15-y-o me would still be reading the NME... sod it, probably British Sea Power.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus, I'm scared to think...I hope to God I wouldn't have listened to Staind or Puddle of Mudd or some nu-metal garbage like that, but that does seem to be the de rigeur disaffected teenage bullshit nowadays, and back when I was 15 I was all about some Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails...suffice to say, I try not to think about it.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I really can't answer this question. It's too hard.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 14 November 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Dizzee or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, probably, depending on which side of the trend fence I sat...

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Slayer, Mastodon, Napalm Death, Hatebreed, the Haunted, Dillinger Escape Plan.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Thinking back to what I listened to when I was 15 and how it'd probably transfer to the present day:

Probably Soviet, Deftones, Blur, Suede, Elastica, Coldplay, Travis, Turin Brakes, Queens of the Stone Age, Ladytron, and... hm. Maybe Norah Jones, too. Yeah, that's about it. Oh yeah, and I think I would've been wild about that Christina A. song "Beautiful", btw.

This is pure supposition, btw. :)

Pancakes For Breakfast! (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Strokes, YYYs, Ladytron, DFA

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I was so lazy at 15, so it would have to be something on MTV and K-Rock.

I'd probably be really into Chevelle. System of a Down would prolly be my favorite band. Someone like that. Something really big and heavy. Maybe Nirvana... they still get constant airplay. I'd be totally ready for something new like Lightning Bolt, it's just a question of whether or not anyone at my school was cool enough to turn me on to them, because I wouldn't be doing any reading or research.

And I would hate, I would Hate, I would HATE Dave Matthews. Or whoever the most popular soft rock band/performer was. I would probably spend more time bashing that band than hyping my favorite band.

Shaun (shaun), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The Replacements. I wish I would've discovered them sooner. It would have helped me a lot during my teenage years.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Francis, but your average fifteen-yr-old today has no idea who they were. If you were a fifteen year old TODAY, who do you think you'd appreciate?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

probably the strokes

minna (minna), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

when i was 15 all i listened to was Crass and Bananarama so probably Pink!

scott seward, Friday, 14 November 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

nirvana at 15, so probably at the drive in or something

typo acapulco (gcannon), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Like most of the young roustabouts in my one-horse town, I had a serious classic-rock jones, so I would probably be listening to Jet or something equally derivative.

Christian Rawk (Christian Rawk), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Still cannot figure what I'd like. Something relatively pop oriented and synth based. Yet unknown enough that "everybody" wouldn't be into the same band or act. Also, it would have to be somebody who was riding high in the UK charts, as the UK was all I cared about at that time, and this also implies it would have to be some UK act. Not least, it would almost one hundred per cent certainly be something with male vocals.

I'd be most likely to dig some of the most song-oriented electroclash stuff out there, if there is something that has male vocals at all.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

from where i'm from, 2pac despite it being 03.

scissors (Honda), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 15 it was Primal Scream

samuelbloch, Friday, 14 November 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The Art Bears or the Shaggs. Maybe O-Town.

Happiness Stan (Nom De Plume), Friday, 14 November 2003 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably The Shins or Mirah.

Ian Johnson (orion), Friday, 14 November 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

dolphins of the forest, disco mystics and grammarphone.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 14 November 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to say, the darkness but it would probably be somebody else.

dog latin, Friday, 14 November 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick Drake, the Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, This Ascension, Lycia, Aphex Twin, the Red House Painters, the Chameleons UK, Jandek

(then again I am 15)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 14 November 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Woohoo! You're in a fine place. But embrace the beats and bass, you'll not go wrong.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 November 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

whatever shit was fed to me

peepee (peepee), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

curtis, a word to the wise, almost everything on your list is amazing, but if you listen to the smashing pumpkins you MAY go blind and grow hair on your palms.just thought you should know.

scott seward, Friday, 14 November 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Seward is alas deluded, pity him.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Goldrapp or Muse

Jeremy (Jeremy), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

er, Goldfrapp

Jeremy (Jeremy), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I kind of had the same tastes I have now. So to name newish bands from college onward, probably The Strokes, Belle and Sebastian, Sleater Kinney.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh good one. If I were fifteen, I'd probably think Muse were absolute titans.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Marilyn Manson, Coldplay.

sucka (sucka), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

No Doubt. P!nk. Kylie Minoqgue.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Francis, but your average fifteen-yr-old today has no idea who they were. If you were a fifteen year old TODAY, who do you think you'd appreciate?
-- Alex in NYC (vassife...), November 14th, 2003.

WELL THEN, GRUMPY MC GRUMP, HOW 'BOUT *starts mooning at Alex* ~!@#$%^&*()_+_

The White Stripes would do fine.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't being grumpy (believe me, when I'm grumpy YOU'LL KNOW IT!), I was merely clarrifying the question.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

After careful deliberation, the only conclusion I can reach is that I just wouldn't want to be 15 now, 'cos there's nothing out there that could possibly cover all the bases that punk in general and The Damned in particular did for me in 1978.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 14 November 2003 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 15, I loved the JAMC and Love & Rockets. So I'd probably be into The Strokes and BRMC if I were 15 now.

God, that's depressing.

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 14 November 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 15, punk was just starting in: That puts me into Strokes/Whitestripes territory. So no real difference.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 14 November 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

< hysterical > "No real difference" between Strokes / Whitestripes and Ramones / Sex Pistols / Clash / Damned?!?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 14 November 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

the Strokes i reckon

Michael B, Friday, 14 November 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

No, stew, calm down.

I actually meant the bands I like now....

(Someone recently asked me what my favourite band was, and I still can't pick ne i care that much about).

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 14 November 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

>Nick Drake, the Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine... Jandek

Why Jandek?

Shaun (shaun), Friday, 14 November 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Outkast probably.

scott m (mcd), Friday, 14 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Sonic Youth and Radiohead, no doubt. I have a horrible suspicion I'd like that shouty emo-with-metal-vocals stuff that's been going around, too.

cis (cis), Friday, 14 November 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Why Jandek?

Why not?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 14 November 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

cis you must mean screamo. I never pass up a chance to use that term.

scott m (mcd), Friday, 14 November 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Knowing what kind of fifteen year old I was and what routes I had for discovering music, I'm fairly-to-extremely certain I would dig Outkast, The White Stripes, System of a Down...the weirdos, for the most part.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 14 November 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

My fave was Yes, with Genesis, Bowie, Amon Duul II, and Blue Oyster Cult right behind, put I'm not very aware of what prog is around today, so you tell me.

nickn (nickn), Friday, 14 November 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Dream Theater

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 14 November 2003 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was fifteen my favorite band WAS Dream Theater. Now it would hopefully be Tool, and hopefully not be pick-a-nu-metal-band.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 November 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I was into anything that the rest of my class wasn't into, but not necessarily cutting edge. Whatever the old dude at the record store recommended.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 14 November 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The Neptunes/N.E.R.D., though I think Blur were my faves back then, so what this says about me I have no idea.

EDIT: Actually, the Wu, the Chemicals and the Prodge formed a pretty tigh-knit top 4 with Blur back then, so I'd probably be into the Audio Bullys too.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 14 November 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'd probably be a bigger fan of The Prodigy.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 14 November 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Children of Bodom.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 14 November 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Le Tigre

Kevin Erickson, Saturday, 15 November 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

If I were 15 today, I think I probably would have just stuck to books and films.

Marcello Carlin, Saturday, 15 November 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 15 I didn't want to hear anything that wasn't hip-hop. And althought the 15 years ensuing have seen me dabble in indie and settle into deep love with country, rockabilly and old r&b the only modern music that really sets my pulse racing is, still, hip-hop.

So without at doubt 15-yr-old Sam in the '03 would be rocking Fiddy, Outkast and probably Missy. Err, much like 30-yr-old Sam is . . .

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 15 November 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and definitely Eminem. Fifteen-yr-old me would be all over his shit much like. .well like I am now, so yeah.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 15 November 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

hrr, lemme reach back THREE WHOLE YEARS now...

probably the same as back then - Timbaland, "concious" rap (Dead Prez, PE), Nick Cave, the Pixies. i'm still only-just molting out of my "Kathleen Hannah is g0d" phase. my taste hasn't changed much, just expanded a bit - it's easier now for me to listen to more uhm melodious music and enjoy it for that quality, whereas previously it would just sound like noise to me. i'm bizarro-geir. :(

Adrian (Adrian Langston), Saturday, 15 November 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i like how N. takes this question - thoughtfully.

youn, Saturday, 15 November 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 15: Michael Jackson, Smashing Pumpkins, Public Enemy, Sonic Youth, Beck.

If I was 15 now: Definitely Justin Timberlake! Probably Muse, Radiohead, Eminem, Missy, Fountains Of Wayne, Trail Of Dead, Flaming Lips. Quite possibly Linkin Park. There, I said it. Crucify me.

syntaxfree, Saturday, 15 November 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably Desaparecidos, but instead of just digging that I'd be buying everything on Saddle Creek and be mad at people who'd never heard The Good Life. Yeesh.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 15 November 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 15 - MxPx, the Dead Kennedys, the Buzzcocks, the Clash, Rancid

So, uh, probably the same.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 17 November 2003 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Dashboard Confessional

innercitykitty (innercitykitty), Monday, 17 November 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And does no one like the Shins now?

innercitykitty (innercitykitty), Monday, 17 November 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Fifteen is where it all went wrong for me, and I started listening to music for 40 year olds--Peter Gabriel, Steve Winwood, Billy Joel, Phil Collins, ech. Sting was probably the coolest my taste got, except for Springsteen. So, I guess, uh, Sting and Springsteen. John Mayer?

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Monday, 17 November 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

probably some goth shit

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 17 November 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I would probably be all about emo -- thank g0d I didn't know about it back then. I would probably be as contemptuous of bling-bling hip-hop as I am now. Outkast would probably seem like the greatest thing ever (I can't get very excited about them right now).

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 17 November 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Danii Minogue and Kylie. Oh wait, that's now. Okay...We'll wait five years and wait for the Olsen twins to release their pop-disco debut. Don't we already know they're going to do it? It'll rip.

CS appleby, Monday, 17 November 2003 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Matrix OST, LOTR OST, Shallow Hal OST

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 17 November 2003 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

to me nothing's better than my two favorite albums at 15: PJ Harvey's rid of me and Copper. they're still in my cd rotation.

mandinina (mandinina), Monday, 17 November 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The Velvet Underground and the Violent Femmes, just like when I was 15.

(oh, and the Wonder Stuff)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 17 November 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Fifteen year-olds nowadays love, and I mean LOVE to be raped by sea slugs, fo shizzle.

stayhungry, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I just got How the West Was Won so I'm going to say Zeppelin. Ain't a damn thing changed.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i wouldnt be into music, i'd be into revolution

you fuming navigators, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The Mars Volta seems to be set up for teenage wankers with bad hair in crap towns, so they get my vote. I like them now, for what it's worth.

Loving some of the Pseud's Corner answers on this. Scott Seward notable here.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably the White Stripes.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Distillers, without a doubt.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Easily Radiohead. Very high profile but you can pretend they're alternative like I used to do with Zooropa-era U2. And full of angst.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I poop too much.

Labia, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)
