subscribing to fabric cds - live and studio, or just studio?

i've always been averse to live mix discs, because to my mind something that's designed primarily to be danced to in a club environment doesn't necessarily lend itself to livingroom listening. There's probably some unfashionably non-postmodern ideals such as craft floating around there as well (I'd rather have something pieced together in a studio over a whole day than a live set mixed in about an hour).

But if I'm going to subscribe to the Fabric series (albeit four months too late for my coveted Swayzak disc, but nevermind), is it worth ticking the other box as it were and getting the Fabriclive discs as well?

i don't think the fabriclive discs are mixed live. they certainly don't sound any more spontaneous than the fabric discs. you may want to consider the fabriclive discs if you enjoy: 1) breaks and 2) drum and bass. on the other hand, the 4 out of 13 that aren't breaks have been pretty spectacular: bugz in the attic, bent, jacques lu cont and john peel. so i'd keep an eye on the fabriclive release schedule but i wouldn't subscribe to it, no.

Fabriclive aren't mixed live - they're just representative of the music/DJs at "Fabric Live" which is a separate night to "Fabric".

Expanding my breaks and d'n'b collection wouldn't hurt I suppose...

i went to the Fabriclive night once because TimeOut said Dizzee was supposed to be on with DJ Slimzee. he didn't show, and it was pants.

dizzee cancelled the first time cos he had to shoot videos, then couldt play the rescheduled date cos he got stabbed.
i think theyve given up on him...

but it wasnt a no-show, it was cancelled prior to the night. fabric may have neglected to tell anyone but....
