Why are people buying to 5:1 now when they didn't buy into quadrophonic?

Cos even cinema sound was (mostly) mono in the 70s? Most people are getting into this through five-channel AV setups, which have been pretty commonplace for ProLogic/Laserdisc/VHS for over a decade.

Because Quadrophonic required especially made CD's. 5:1 doesn't (apart from this SACD stuff, which will eventually flop anyway)

Sometimes it's not an option. It seems like almost all stereo packages sold now are 5:1.
