A great Steppenwolf album - what year was it released?

I just transferred one of my old albums to mp3 format - Early Steppenwolf, Recorded Live at the Matrix in San Francisco, May 14, 1967.

It's on very heavy thick vinyl, on the Dunhill label. The inner sleeve has a groovy picture of a chick with trippy lighting shining from behind her face. The tagline reads - "Dunhill Is Turning On The People!"

There are little pictures of other albums from artists like:The Mamas & The Papas, Three Dog Night, and Love Theme From The Flight Of The Phoenix.

Track listing:

side 1-

Power Play
Howlin' For My Baby
Goin' Upstairs
Corina, Corina
Tighten Up Your Wig

side 2

The Pusher

side 2 is a 21:36 version of The Pusher.

This is an excellent album! I bought it about 21 years ago in a used record shop in Philly. Is anyone else familiar with this recording? If so, do you know when the album was actually released? There's no date on the label or the cover. Thanks.

Never heard of it - but a 21:36 version of the pusher would be worth a listen.

It first came out in 1969, and it's recordings from when they were still called Sparrow.

How is that version of "The Pusher"?

but a 21:36 version of the pusher would be pushing it...

My critical review of the 21:36 version of "The Pusher";

The first 14 minutes or so are electronic, psychedelic noodling with high pitched guitar squealing and distorted vocal reverby stuff with sporadic drumming. It has a very experimental flavor - not bad but probably a bit too long and indulgent.

The last 7 minutes or so are a very strong, passionate and rather straightforward "Pusher".

Taken as a whole, it's a very good piece - definetly worth listening to from time to time.

If you're interested in having this, drop me an email and we can do a CD swap of some sort. I did this once before here with BurmaKitty, so she can vouch for me integrity.
