The Passengers' Original Soundtracks 1 C/D

Ok I was listening to this album again tonight. I bought it without hearing anything from it. I was into U2 as a kid and through them fell in love with Eno, especially Another Green World. I was in a record shop (Penguin Music) in Toronto on a trip back there to see friends (I had moved to Memphis a year before) about 7 or 8 years ago and saw it. The idea of a U2/Eno collaboration fascinated me and I was not disappointed. Tonight I finally got around to reading the AMG review of it and it only got 3 stars with only a mention of "Miss Sarievo" and "Your Blue Room" (the first of which is probably my least favorite track). I used to play "Elvis Ate America" after taking people to Graceland but they have a lot of the referenced items from the tour so it is not quite so meaningful.

I know its a lot Eno (maybe too Eno for ILM) but I was wondering what the feeling about this album was 'round here. It's a good 4/5 star album in my mind- 3 seems a little rediculous and more based on sales than quality. It's no U2 album and the older I get the more I appreciate it.

But yeah, anyway what do you think? I guess this is where I searched for 'the passengers' and only saw them as a side-mention. So think of this as a C/D, S/D, whatever: this thread is the place where you say what Original Soundtracks means to you.

Definite classic, and "Your Blue Room" ranks among the best U2 songs. "Slug" and "Miss Sarajevo" ain't too shabby either.

This is really quite a beautiful record.

There's a live version of 'One' on a Passengers single which is the best thing ever. Its from a Sarajevo concert and features the live strings of Craig Armstrong. Try and get a copy.

two years pass...
this album is pretty incredible. possibly the last great u2 album, or a good album for people who like eno but hate u2, or who like pavarotti but not eno, or who need more music to fall asleep to

"Your Blue Room" is a lovely thing: fragile and vaporous in the best way. "Slug" and "Always Forever Now" are terrific too. These represent the best songs Eno's been involved with since the Cale collaboration.

wait, something can be "too Eno" for ILM?

I had to buy it after reading A Year With Swollen Appendices. Granted, I didn't hang on to it, but it definitely has its moments, and clunky lyrics aside, "Slug" is a fantastic thing.

The Eno journal also sold me on Passengers' virtues.

a good album for people who like eno but hate u2

spot on.

and yes, 'your blue room' sounds beaaaaaaaautiful when you wake up to it in mid-dream.

could live without 'miss sarajevo' for all time, though (i wrote 'miss pavarotti' at first, which i actually kinda like better)
