Might help if you explained *why* you thought they were the new Pistols...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wondered that myself. Possibly because they perform covers of Small Faces songs and rip off ABBA riffs... And influence bands like early Guns 'N' Roses.

Oxide + Neutrino are the new B52's

tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neutrino is a dick in the most entertaining way. The music is also roundly terrible.

"Up Middle Finger" is a brilliant single, much better than "Pretty Vacant", not as good as "Holidays In The Sun".

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"In The City" = bettah than "Pretty Vacant", and yuh know what I think of the Jamn...

Not well-educated or well-dressed or well-spoken enough for you, Matthew? Because they're just yobs, aren't they? They're not even proper human beings? Charles Moore and Charles Murray were both damn right, weren't they?

Fuck you, Matthew. Your comment has wound me up like nothing here since Reynard's "Public Enemy are revolting" line, you dick (in the most entertaining way).

"Up Middle Finger" = AWESOME.

Robin Carmody, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Robin calm down. There is NOTHING AT ALL in Matthew's statement to indicate any of what you're imputing. I also suspect Neutrino is a bit of a dick - bigging yourself up on stage in that way pretty much requires a high level of arrogance and swagger. And I think his records are sometimes brilliant: no contradiction.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, i have to agree here. i see nothing in Matthews post that leads to yr conclusion.

gareth, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

agreeing with Tom, and not seeing Robins conclusion, that is.

gareth, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I sort of knew I was exaggerating, but there's something about Matthew that always bugs me. Not that he seems right-wing, more obsessed with looking "classy" and "bettering yourself" in a manner which often leads to disastrous social snobbery. To be honest, that was more an attack on the tone of a lot of Matthew's posts here than on the one I was replying to. His "roundly terrible" line got to me not because of what he said but the way he seemed to be saying it.

Robin Carmody, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Matthew can probably defend himself better than I can but I must say I've not noticed that either.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll leave Matthew to defend himself here, but I'll just say that his descriptions of West Yorkshire sound *to me* like he's adopting a tone of effortless superiority in a way that Gareth's descriptions of the same area never have or could. The very worst element of Momus scenestery.

Robin Carmody, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The very worst element of Momus scenestery

Blimey eh that bad.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh-heh Tom, catch me saying that two years ago :).
