what greatness have you accidentally discovered on slsk/kazaa/whateva ?

Like, stuff that you just kinda found, not stuff that you made a concious effort to seek out. A good way of doing this is just typing random words into slsk and downloading whatever comes up (ok, so that kinda *is* seeking stuff out, but you still catch my drift, right?)

Stuff I've found this way:

"Joe Le Taxi" by Vanessa Paradis - wonderful french Pop tune.

"Batman Is Not A Green Hornet" by Noctule Sorix - groovy gothpop

A MP3 by something called "El Gran Silencio" which is the most wonderful, melodramatic, overblown shit I've ever heard. Scott Walker wishes, and this guy doesn't even need an orchestra.

"Comics De Batman" by Airbag - kickarse spanish (?) Punk...nothing to do w/ Batman as far as I can tell from the lyrics.

"Comics" by The Churchills - sounds like a lost Blues Project single!

"Me & Moshik The Dog" by Kfotz Li - I love this, so much so that I even googled the guy's name, but came out empty handed. He sounds vaguely Eastern Europeish, but I'm not sure. Anyway, best Classic Rock piano ballad evah! Plus the title!

Oh, and then there's an MP3 titled "Le Incroyable Hulk", which turns out to be a shlocky french ballad with no connections to the jolly green giant whatsoever. Not particuarly listenable, but fun to have around.

Yerselfs?

The Chap!! I was looking through somebody's files and thought they had good taste and then I saw this band I had never heard of. I downloaded "Courage + Modesty", loved it and then downloaded the whole album. It's not very consistent, but the best bits are truly great. One time I sent some guy about something and he looked through my files and responded "Hey, you have the Chap, that's very cool. I know them. They have slept on my couch." Small world.

Also, Haikunym is a big fan of El Gran Silencio and says their new album is one of the best of the year, though I haven't heard it yet.

"Comics" by The Churchills

Terrific Israeli beat/garage rock group from 1966 or so. There's a comp out that's of great worth.

My fave accidental find on slsk were the 3 Stroboscopica comps of Italian film music.

francois de roubaix - journal de bord

the original version of Mogwai's "Tuner"

Not sure if it counts:
Yusef Lateef.
Basically I downloaded tons of versions of Nights In Tunisia, and his sporked my waxmaster right into a lump, so I immediately went and ordered an album. Good stuff.

I've stumbled upon a few bands just by browsing some users filelists too.

To me, that's the best thing about stuff like Soulseek: the ability to see what people who enjoy similar music to you also listen to on a more specific level than general survey (such as gnoosic.com).

Oooh! Any idea where they're from? Somehow I figured Mexico, but haven't checked up on it...

Yeah, they're from Mexico

I was just thinking about this theme earlier today.

Year of the Rabbit- 'hunted': found while searching for sigur ros or something completely different. I tried another song by YOTR and hated it, though. This one is nice in a cheesy sorta teen angst way.

Goran Bregovic/Ofra Haza- 'elo hi'

Herman Dune- 'hinterland': sort of annoying shannon wright cover but it's amusing.

and so much more I'm forgetting.
