Out Hud and Sly Stone are very good. I got the Sunshine Fix for free and couldn't sit through it. I haven't heard any of the others. I'd probably buy the Action and Mandrill and the Isley Brothers if I saw them cheap.

Oh, I've heard Blondie and it's good too!!

You HAVE to get Sly's
Fresh first. That is an order.
Then probably Isleys' Heat is On.
And forget about that crappy English Charlatans garbage. Get the San Francisco band who had the name first. The Amazing Charlatans compilation cd on Big Beat should take care of you.

Fresh is also mega-wowza.

Might as well get Split Enz 'Frenzy' too, unless you already have it. It's got "I See Red" on it!

The Blondie and the Sly Stone are no-brainers. You're laughing. The Sunshine Fix are like the Polyphonic Spree after some redundancies - ultrabright, sugar rush acid pop. Isley Brothers are great but check out Givin' It Back as well - brilliant covers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Dylan, Hendrix etc. Good sleeve, on which the brothers unconvincingly hold guitars as if the photographer has just thrust them into their hands with the stern instruction to "look rock".

one month passes...
Update: I bought a few things:
The Action, _Rolled Gold_ : Virally catchy tunes with
psychedelic leanings and a hard-rocking edge. These
demos sound better than most proper albums released in
'67, but are sadly mono.
Mandrill, _Mandrill Is_ : Even better than I expected,
a hybrid of hard funk (War, Sly Stone) and Jethro Tull-like
progressive rock. An unusual combination, but potent and
exciting to these ears.
Robyn Hitchcock, _I Often Dream Of Trains_: Sparse but
fascinating and beautiful songs from a scion of Syd Barrett.
Belle & Sebastian fans are also advised to investigate.
I also got Split Enz' _Mental Notes_, _Disrythmia_, and
_True Colours_, thoroughly enjoying them. They sounnd like
early Genesis or 10cc, but with a sinister, demented twist.
Bravo!
I removed _Mustard_ from the list, I don't know why I ever
wanted that kitschy Beach Boys ripoff.
