ALEX PARKS - Maybe That's What It Takes #1 (the song is rub, though)

Which of the following will chart highest -
LUMIDEE - Crashin' A Party

Has been said by everyone ever really but Miracles is probably the finest PSB single since Can You Forgive her? which makes it finest in over a decade. Maybe. Perhaps. Also, Jump is a million million times better than it has any right to be, it has glorious slightly-clunky-churn quality to it which doesn't prevent it from dazzling in manner of cascade of tiny blinky twinklestars and is ace like the Kylie cover of Give Me Just A Little More Time was in 1991/2, if you want ill-advised-but-ohhhh-tremendous cover-y context. And that was very ace. On the downside, the repackaged version of their album is a horrible botched fuckstrip and completely disregards the aesthetic perfection of pretty much every aspect of the original record, but so it goes. Yay!

On the downside, the repackaged version of their album is a horrible botched fuckstrip

They've gotten rid of Love Bomb, haven't they? Fools! Love Bomb is the nearest thing to a new Betty Boo single and they get rid of it.

MIDWEEKS SEEN - BETTING ENDS

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

First new entry - Starsailor #40.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, the midweeks had Starsailor down as being the only one of the 'highest placed' picks to be in the top 40, and if that's true, no-one's scored anything. The scent of me fucking up again is heavy in the air.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

National 'Pretending To Give A Toss About Rugby Union' Weekend is commemorated by UB40 re-entering at #37, and getting played in full.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Wes has a Busted competition. He's mentioned it twice already. We're on #36.

GRRRR.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

AND HE'S PLAYING ROBBIE WILLIAMS IN FULL!

AGAIN!

I am a bit angry.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelly Clarkson #35.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, Busted are shit, but "She Wants To Be Me" from their new album is quite quite decent.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 23 November 2003 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

So, unless Lumidee or The Original crop up later, that's 10 points for Ed, Steve, The Fish and me.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Two early fallers in 'Race For #27' - Stereophonics #34, Holly Valance #39.

And B&S are EIGHT PLACES HIGHER THAN STARSAILOR THUS SHOWING THAT MARDY BASTARD WALSH. At #32.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex gets 10 for that, by the way.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Who'd buy The Original again? The same idiots who bought the original Original nearly 9 years ago, one assumes.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Been puuuuushin' now for days!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Sing it wimme!

I've! Got! To! Change! My! Ways!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Bunton #30.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

#27...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Is...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The Darkness - 10 more for Alex, putting him 10 clear at the front...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

White Stripes new at #23. Didn't include it in the picks, though.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Shania Twain is new at #21, which must be fun for her. Not in the picks though.

Only one of this week's ten picks has charted thus far.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

No new entries in the top 20 yet. It's a bit dull.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Radiohead #15. Didn't put that in the picks either.

Piss.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I adore you William

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I should hope so - you're the only one that's scored anything so far...

Mis-Teeq #13. No points for anyone.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't hold out any hopes for Bon Jovi, Solex or Lumidee appearing now either.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Does this fucking mean PSB will be Top 10?! Dare I dream it?

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Mis-Teeq singles normally get to number 9, what's going on? Who wrote that song btw? Parts of it remind me of that Blue single (don't know the title but had lyric about 'drive by in the fly by' or something or other). I wondered if it was the same writers. Of course this Mis-Steeq one is also reminiscent of a tinny low-rent 'Crazy' but that's another matter.

David (David), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Torn between wanting PSB to just miss the 10 so I can get points, and wanting the single to do really well because of how great it is.

Should one purchase the PopArt double-CD or should one save up and buy the remasters?

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

They're at #10! They're at #10! [How long has it been since their last top tenner, anyway? Was it "You Only Tell Me..."?]

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

RA RA RA RA RA! It was, Thomas.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a great moment. There's a tear, really.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It's pretty good as well! ;-) Not maybe quite PSB at their best, but very good and I suspect better than some of their more recent singles.
Yeah... would people recommend 'Pop Art' or more generally the album reissues? "Behaviour" and "Very" always used to be my favourite albums of theirs.

Fatman Scoop; great as ever! And Outkast... this is a damnfine Top 10 so far!

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"Do you prefer saying it as 'B*uuu*sted', like me?" Dear me, that man is obsessed...

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Wes must be getting fucked by one (if not all) of 'em.
OK, Alex Parks at #3? That makes the top 2 both cover versions - has this ever happened before? And pleaseohpleaseohgod don't let it be Westlife at the top...

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn it all to hell.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex Parks' single sounds like a not-very-good Annie Lennox impersonator covering a not-very-good Pretenders song.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW, am I the only Yank contributing to this thread as the chart's revealed? Really, I'm curious.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Enrique 11, PSB 10, Lemar 5, Alex Parks 3, Girls Aloud 2 and Westlife 1.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Highest placed was Kelly Clarkson in the end, with the Darkness #27. No-one picked Solex or Bon Jovi to finish outside the top 40 anyway, so that doesn't matter. Once the write up's done, points, picks, etc.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Cripes, "Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems"... a sign to turn the radio off which I take up each week!

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i just noticed the other day that one of Booosted is wearing an Anti-Pasti tshirt in the 'wedding' video. this is wrong on so many levels. havent seen the Westlife video yet, but have high hopes for one of them to be sporting a Rudimentary Peni top.

zappi (joni), Sunday, 23 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the point where Mr Swygart forgets what the PSB single sounds like and has to hurriedly download it off Soulseek. Except he's on 56K, so 'hurriedly downloading' anything takes at least half an hour. GRR.

(Note: I didn't do this last week for The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. That's because they are toss.)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank god I did that. Miracles is brilliant.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

"Miracles" is a near-perfect song, and Wes confirmed his wankerdom still further by TALKING OVER THE OUTRO. flicking to the Smash Hits Chart I noticed Mark Goodier describe Outkast's "Hey Ya" as a "great record", not something I can ever imagine Wes saying - even the simplest statement of genuine love for the music he's playing seems utterly beyond Butters.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 23 November 2003 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

To be fair to Wes, he did talk over Madonna's bit in Me Against The Music too.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 23 November 2003 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

a deserving fate, I feel :).

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 23 November 2003 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Wes clearly sees his job as worthwhile more for its celebrity kudos and the chance for him to (idiotically) 'interview the stars', than as anything to do with music. He latches onto a few artists, but is it really a genuine or lasting attachment to Williams, Busted & co.?

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 23 November 2003 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)
