EINÓMA: Undir Feilnótum CD (VERTICAL FORM) $15.99
First album, repressed. "Einóma is the work of two close icelandic friends and long time studio partners. Having initially dabbled in the world of shortfilm making commencing from the tender age of 13 years old, an early fascination was developed for sound and its ability as a tool to compliment and often drive storytelling. This dominant fascination within their work soon became more and more prominent to evventually overide the filmaking and to take primary importance within their creative goals. Initially adopting a sound of pure ambience and filmic sensibility, their production approach slowly developed into more rhythmically orientated pieces along with a backdrop of their much loved soundtrack orientated aesthetic. Having released only one ep to date on the Icelandic Uni:Form label, Undir Feilnótum is their debut album and first release of many with Vertical Form. Their work cleverly combines elements of both influence and invention that so much of todays electronic output falls short of, whilst simultaneously maintaining andbalancing a distinct prduction approach that firmly places their sound within the premier league of experimental recording outfits. Undir Feilnótum is a dark and deeply atmospheric album, incorporating eight tracks clocking in at 38 mins in length, each cut firmly demonstrates their obsessive skill for programming, intricate sequencing and rhythmic construction providing a body of work consisting of varying themes, moods and tempo's whilst continually forging ahead with a fresh outlook on both their own sound and the format of contemporary electronics."

(Tasty stuff, the only decent IDM I have heard in awhile. No shite childhood melodies, just gritty beats and abstract dark atmospherics. Berlin grit by way of Iceland. Think Monolake brokenbeat or Din 12" era Arovane but with more drive and direction.)

yes i would like to hear this, as that other thread a few weeks ago got my interest up. i bought the rechenzentrum peel sessions LP based on that thread, seems enjoyable enough but i haven't really listened all that much

isn't monolake the dude from ableton?

yes and no.

Monolake was originally two people, Gerhard Behles and Robert Henke. Gerhard did a lot of the software design during the early years, eventually working towards Live. As Abelton grew into a real company it eventually took up more and more of Behles time until he stopped being involved with the creative end of the project.

Robert Henke now does Monolake by himself, and works as a creative consultant to Abelton. He basically is part of a team that decides what Abelton should do, and what features it should have in order to get there. I also read the other day that he is working on effects for Live as well.

Ron, are you still lukewarm on Rechenzentrum?

Nihilist Pop Star (mjt), Sunday, 23 November 2003 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i haven't listened to it since that time, but it's sitting right here. sooner or later i'll get back to it hopefully.

on the ableton site at one time they had an interesting monolake track, which was constructed completely from one white noise sample - - then making all kinds of different sounds from it using the clip envelopes and effects. don't know if it's still there, i think it was part of the live3 sales pitch

That sounds interesting, wish I had a copy of that.

i can't remember exactly where i got it, i don't think it's an officially released song (or so it says in the id tag) - it's about 1 minute excerpt, and it's about 1.4 megs. maybe i could email it to you
