The ILX consensus will probably be Basement shaggin' Jaxx (which ILX chat last week proved is actually rubbish) or The Black Album, which is fair enough.

I'd pick Fever To Tell.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 17 November 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The LickGoldenSky album

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 17 November 2003 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Monday, 17 November 2003 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

pray tell reasons for why Kish Kash is rubbish Mr Farrell?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 November 2003 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing of interest on it. An excellent album for reviewing, but I listened to it once and nothing stuck in my head. Consensus seemd to be along those lines.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

listen to kish kash for the first time in a good few weeks this afternoon, it's still unsuprisingly outstanding.

Top 5 albums of 2003 so far

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Could I just say that while the Fourtet album is pretty good, it is in no way deserving of its many appearances in peoples Top Fives. It seems to be the choice for people who can only think of four and want to put in something in that makes them seem hip, daddio.

If any one NEEDS to add a final hipper-than-thou choice, go with Ulrich Schnauss's "Strangely Isolated Place" or Pulse Programming's "Tulsa for one Second" instead. They're much better.

Oh and Fridge are shit.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Fridge ARE shit.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

They're called Frdige, for fuck's sake.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe Fridge.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

One thing I have enjoyed this year is the complete lack of "dance acts" with "guest indie vocalists". Bravo! This might not have happened for a few years as I don't really pay much attention to such sub-pointless geck, but I'm happy anyway.

I'm hugely looking forward to next year as I can count eight records coming out (and thats just so far) that have my name on them somewhere. Fear my hostile takeover of the world!

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Like the new Basement Jaxx album with its guest vocalists Lisa from the Bellrays and Siouxsie Sioux, for instance?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 17 November 2003 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK FRIDGE!! DIZZEE RASCAL THE ONE AND ONLY ANSWER!!!!

Jus' A Rascal!! Dizzee Rascal!!!, Monday, 17 November 2003 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Basement Jaxx are so completely removed from my world it's not even funny.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

ned raggett reads the almanac

Woo!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

from the Top 5 albums of 2003 so far thread:

1. National Forest
2. Fourtet
3. Steve Malkmus
4. Nokakazu Takemura
5. I-Node

-- Lynskey (pau...), May 10th, 2003.

from this thread:

Different email addresses, so maybe I have the wrong person, but if it's the same person, now I can see a justification for the ridiculous generalization (even if Lynskey is just talking about himself).

Jonathan (Jonathan), Monday, 17 November 2003 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Lynskey also made that initial top 5 in May! You should see the shit I put in my top 5 in May!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 17 November 2003 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(Okay, not shit, but Cat Power and Yo La Tengo will most definitely not be anywhere close to my year-end top 5.)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 17 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. Good point. I just figure that people will put whatever they want in their top 5, and we don't need to assess their reasons for doing so (I won't have fourtet in my list, nor will I have Ulrich Schnauss's or Pulse Programming's albums, though I noticed the latter made it into Lynskey's revised list, helping him remain "hipper-than-thou." heh.).

Jonathan (Jonathan), Monday, 17 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I'm hipper than you are. Part of the reason I posted that is that I too fell into the "stick Fourtet in" trap.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The Rapture of course

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Monday, 17 November 2003 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Broadcast - HAHA sound

daavid, Monday, 17 November 2003 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

ulrich schnauss is not hip, there was a subject here where everyone hated on him(though he's great) and ilm determines hip. four tet album is that good and deserves to be in most people's top five, but i like the random number cd better cause it's prettier.

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Glad we've got all cleared up, then.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

all THAT cleared up then. Jeez.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)
