Worst LP of 2004, thus far?

Come on - I KNOW some of you have promos for record to be released next year that are totally, totally wack. I have one, a live record by a well-respected indie act I don't feel like naming yet, that SHOULD be released - just in limited edition (maybe 500 copies) on colored vinyl.

Yo Mama & the Scapegoats - New World Odour

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"Love Actually: OST"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The worst album of this year is probably by some local band in Cincinnati that none of us have heard.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

are there non-local bands in Cincinatti?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, good point! Um....wasn't Reflection Eternal from Cincinatti?

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

so they're like non-local maybe but I think that Talib might have already moved away (like totally SOLD OUT the Cincinatti scene) by the time the record came out.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Talib's from Brooklyn, Hi Tek's from Cincinatti.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 17 November 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

How many more times will Cincinnati be misspelled in this thread?

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

until it gets properly natti

There's a new Hoobastank? Why do you crush my soul so?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

HOOBASTANK IS STANK!!!!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Even having to think about them causes chest pains.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

TV on the Radio.

chuck, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

that might be gas

xpost

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

No, that wasn't an xpost, really.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i was gonna say

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

you all need to suck my ass.

there is no way tv on the radio is worse than that fucking wilson phillips album!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I'll agree with you on that!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm keen to hear this new found glorty

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

they're touring with blank-1972

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

now i really want to hear the wilson philips album.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I sorta want to balance that out with the Will to Power album. Essentially both are late eighties/early nineties bands looking for the comeback.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Most DISAPPOINTING album of the year so far, by the way (though MAYBE I'll change my mind on this sooner or later, at least I hope so):

Northern State, *All City*

chuck, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

no way the Wilson Philips album is as awesome as that Chyna Philips album "naked" or "nude" or whatever it was called, on account of people actually heard of Wilson Philips, whereas "naked/nude" just vanished from sight within seconds of its release

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm listening to the WP album now actually... it fails but it's not a total disaster. I really really really think that "trip-hop" is not Peter Asher's production forte though.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a cute novelty album. It could be cuter.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

there's something extra deadening about it listening in a retail environment, at 9:30 am, hungover.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

there's absolutely no excuse for jamie cullum, however

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The Eamon single stopped being appealing pretty quickly, but there's no way it belongs on the Hoobastank list.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

California is the Chipmunks: The Asylum Years LP that never happened.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The WP cover of "Go Your Own Way" is... intriguing.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry that I heeerrrtt yewwww, Strongo.

Hoobastank (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and the worst single of the year I've heard is Tantric's cover of "The Chain." Wilson Phillips' left in the dust as far as intolerable Mac covers go.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the "go your own way" cover is pretty. if i heard this in a food court i would stop eating my frozen yogurt and swoon until it was over.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

you all have no soul!! this is inspiring alex in nyc levels of ridiculousness in me!!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

it is like a gaping pine-scented hole in the fabric of the human spirit

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The worst single of the year is clearly "8th World Wonder", anyway.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry. did i mention i own albums by 101 strings?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I don't know if that song is 04. All the music I hear on the PA at work everyday has melded into some horrifying timewarp.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you actually call Blink 182 "Blank-1972", Shulkie?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

haha yeah colin wins

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Jess, you need to hear Tantric.

I disagree with Jet's placement (see that thread where I list the OTHER nine songs on the Mainstream rock chart) though I appreciate the Kanye thing.

As far as Worst Singles Shit-You-Actually-Hear Division goes, I'm voting for Chingy's "One Call Away" as no. 1

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the rhymescheme on "8th world wonder" makes me want to burn myself with cigarettes

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah, OTM

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Both Anthony and Strongo

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

who does "8th World Wonder"? Is that an actual hit or something?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"One Call Away" wins this year's "I Know What You Want" award in making the case against kooky cadenced loverman ballads.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"One Call Away" is an evil force.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

>9) Jay-Z "Dirt Off Your Shoulder"<

This is indeed horrible. I didn't even know what it was until this weekend, when it kept coming on the radio. God he's a bore when he wants to be.

chuck, Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I dig "Holidae In," Jess! Though less so, thanks to "One Call Away."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the "go your own way" cover is pretty. if i heard this in a food court i would stop eating my frozen yogurt and swoon until it was over.

it kinda whips the dixie chicks' "landslide" with a big spiky palm tree. i hope the video's better too.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

also, get "dance dance dance" some cartoon network placement STAT.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

you need to be stopped

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't be stopped.

bushwick cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

KEEP NEW NAME!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

all is forgiven

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and for my year's worst singles I forgot about the aptly named Sleepy Brown's "I Can't Wait." First video where a Bentley Farnsworth cameo couldn't make me hang around.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

he's getting a little played

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I like about 1/3 of the Janet album a lot--the parts where she pretends to be a robot fuckdoll and is overwhelmed by the production. Then she "talks" "about" "her" "fantasies" and "desires" like we're supposed to think she's "human" and it all goes straight to hell.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

remind me to tell you all about Survey Cez, this local CD-R I got in the mail. it's pretty . . . just remind me to tell you about it sometime.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the title alone is making me feel a bit...funny

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

played 1/3 of it a month and a half ago and am still recovering

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

this sounds like the 1/10th of a second of german scat porn i once witnessed that destroyed my soul for all time.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(okay maybe not that bad)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You two are scaring me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

it may have been romanian now that i think of it

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Colin you are mad, "One Call Away" is beautiful.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Strongo are there regional differences in the style and quality of scat porn that make the distinction important?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

well since the experience went something like the following:

"hey guys what's th-OH MY GOD AUGH" *runs away*

i'll have to take it on faith that it does

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

My little sister thinks it's funny to tell everyone that she knows a really great web site about cats called (as she says it) "www dot "s" cat lovers dot com"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I kind of like the new Divine Comedy album.

Atnevon (Atnevon), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

That Hoobastank song "The Reason" is easily the worst (hit) single of 2004 so far. Well, actually, Black Eyed Peas "Hey Mama" is much worse, but that's from a 2003 album.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I thank my stars I've managed to avoid hearing either one.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

No one's mentioned Keane yet... Obv. their record isn't up to great heights but I don't mind it for zoning out on the subway.

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

oooh, I've got a new Worst Album of 2004 (in the Strongo-style "omg so overrated" sense)...AC Newman!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I said it before but you don't know from bad until you've heard the new Train single "ordinary."

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm inclined to believe you.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, give Train some credit...they did a rockin' Zep medley to close out the show when they were down in Vegas as Howard Stern's backing group.

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that song that goes "I'm seventeen for a moment and blab blah blah blah when you've only got 100 years to live" (i think it's by train)...I saw him perform it live on the view.

anyway, that song is the worst song this year. (unless it was released last year).

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That song is "100 Years" by Five For Fighting, same guys who did that song "Superman" that had the same falsetto part.

I swear that band only exists because I liked "Walking In Memphis" back in middle school. God's divine wrath.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh strongo you suck again re: hip-hop

Kanye is great, people have no sense of humor.

djdee2005, Thursday, 3 June 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"Survey Cez"

Best band name I have heard in I have no idea how long.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 3 June 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

keane's not even close to being the worst record of the year. blandest, maybe, but it's not going to offend anyone

the surface noise for the sake of noise (electricsound), Thursday, 3 June 2004 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the new Alanis single just blindsided me on the radio.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It really has to stop. It has to stop now.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Mef's new album is terrible save "What Happenin" and the track w/ Ghostface

Josh Love (screamapillar), Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My mind is spotless.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

As much as it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, 'One Call Away' is Chingy's best single!

*pukes*

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone heard Joe Nichols' "If Nobody Believed In You"? It's about how God gets really sad when you ignore him.

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Thursday, 3 June 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Zeus, this one's for you...

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, God's thread on ILE has fallen far off the radar recently. He's probably crying us a new ocean.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Thursday, 3 June 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Forgot About B.A.A.L.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

That song is "100 Years" by Five For Fighting, same guys who did that song "Superman" that had the same falsetto part.

I swear that band only exists because I liked "Walking In Memphis" back in middle school. God's divine wrath.

wow man that guy looks just like the dude in train (at least to me, but i'm no expert).....Walking in Memphis is WAAAY better than any of those songs dude, don't feel bad....It's really my fault for secretly liking Bruce Hornsby and the Range!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Keith, I complain about Joe Nichols's suck-ass album here:

rolling 2004 country thread

chuck, Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, if some heathen like me compared God to a wussy little leaguer who strikes out cause his dad yells at him, I'd never hear the end of it from the Christians.

I'm even more annoyed at the second verse of the song, which suggests that it's a bad thing to discourage senior citizens from driving. (And that your entire sense of self-esteem should be measured by your driver's license.)

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, this is making me think about all the songs whose third verse should suddenly connect the chorus sentiment with God. The first one that comes to mind is the Backstreet Boys' "Larger Than Life."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Part of the reason that I never get to hear these allegedly great country songs is that I wind up catching shit like Joe Nichols when I flip by Froggy, the local station.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)
