ashman and titchy strider

so, 12 yr old mcs?

they are the best! i would much rather listen to these two than d.e.e or hyper or doogz. or wiley.

what, you find them annoying?*
i love the way their voices sound so strained, like their throats are full of coal and dust.

also the best sound in grime = all the times when titchy fills up a line with 'foo na noo na' or variations on the above. i love that shit!
actually, is it titchy, or tinchy?

so, anyone else into the wave?

i started this thread cos i was waiting for the last garage thread ("what are your favourite uk garage/blipment......") to kick off again proper but it didnt. so just talk about grime/garage....

* seem to remember people moaning about strider on some thread about ice rink?

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 17 November 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

must remember not to post late at night...

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's "Tinchy Stryder", but there are many spellings.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The correct spelling is indeed Tinchy Stryder, and he's sixteen. See also: Deuce magazine, issue 1.17, pp. 38-9.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i think he's great, he really cuts across a beat. two many mcs get drowned out by the music but you can always hear him.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i heard on deja last night he's having a birthday bash but i doubt it's his 13th LOL

martin (martin), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

alright but ashman is definately 12 or 13.

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

seeing as we're on grime/eski here is anyone else feeling Wiley's "Ground Zero" ?

martin (martin), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah ground zero is pretty hot. interesting that its getting things into more of a tune, as opposed to a riddim, territory. but we've had this 'you cant listen to grime instrumentals on their own' discussion before...

also, i want more info on j2k. as i mentioned on the other thread, this tune that is possibly called 'this is me' is fucking amazing! i want to try and upload it to the net somehow....theres a version of it withg jet li. jet li is the fukcing bomb! i want to know more about that....

also, da vinchae. as far as i can tell, his productions are fucking wicked. but i havent heard enough. any tunes to look out for?

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm i'm not convinced about Da Vinche.

i liked the track he did with some gyal MC called "Roxy" but only cos she was grimey. his beats/melodics always sound paper thin to me (and not in a good way).

out of the east London lot it's all about Target for me at the moment (wiley and dizzee accepted). he's got mad oriental sounds and mesmerising rhythms. love the new tune with Riko.

oh and if anyone is reading who's interested in that "hardcore continum" idea, they should check Geeneus' "Journey remixes." they're pure hardcore, which of course makes them interesting on paper and fecking awful to listen to.

martin (martin), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

target's big. he;'s one of the best in the universe. jammer's left nasty crew. terra danja's joined.

l;/', Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

tis true.

martin (martin), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

target's not just big though, he's interesting.

i mean "on road" Eastwood, Skepta, Tubby - they're "big" at the mo.

but i wouldnt want to listen to their tunes outside of a rave.

that Wonder tune is big too, but it's definitely worth a listen to in any environment.

martin (martin), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

martin - i assume you're talking about wonder - what on dump valve.
terra danjah remixes forthcoming which are meant to be excellent.

also terra danjah's really turned it up with "cock back" feat nasty, riko, some other people. out on aftershock. aftershock's just dropped about 3 in a row - that one, a d double e tune that's a bit weird with a metal guitar sound, and crazy titch - "i can c u, can u c me". the d e e features the line "bullets will make your face look weird" which always makes me laugh since it's one of those classic poncey brit accent / gangster threats of violence juxtapositions.

if jammer's left nasty then (hi luke!) the destruction riddim vocal is great to go out on. some shite rapping by jammer in the beginning, but then wiley opens up a fucking can followed by kano SLAYING it, d e e, about 10 people, no seriously.

one more: ambrose - check out j2k feat. wiley - "they will not like u". independance still has it i think.

cooper (cooper), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The only thing I fear wrt Target is that he'll realise there are echoes of dubstep in his sound (which at the moment express themselves supa-positively in his music) and, knowing this, edge closer to Plasticman (no!!!).

The Davinche tracks on the Deuce N.A.S.T.Y. mix are great!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

More recommendations, please.

I'm not sure about "They Will Not Like You"...

Is there any more talk of a grime/UKG primer being released soon? On Ministry? Where's this Femme Fatale mix?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 November 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Poor Plasticman.

Anyway, I just realized today that Tinchy's voice will break soon and consequently, so will my heart. :(

Tinchy Stryder is a good mc but sumtimes his flow has no rhythm an he can get lost in da riddum. Ruff squad's beats r maybe 2 simple an i suspect fruityloops is at fault lol
Wiley also makes da mistake of repeating da same words over an over again in his lyrics which can b annoying. i tink dat b-live will neva reach Wiley, Dizzee's and Tinchy's level but he is still at a good standard.

I expect alot from Wiley's album droppin from XL an i hope it delivers but with tunes like "Take Time" featuring Dizzee i dunno maybe i'm expectin 2 much.

An where do u lot download yur tunes from tell me da best sites 2 download all da grimey tunes any websites will do

Safe

Skilla Grime, Monday, 23 February 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Tek Time" ft. Dizzee has been pulled from the album's final tracklisting...

martin (martin), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

which is?!

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

haven't got tracklisting to hand but the promo copy i've got (which i believe is the final version, out apr 26) doesn't have icerink or eskimo vocals (only instrumental clips), but does have about 9 brand new vocal tracks out of 15 in all - there's 3 or 4 short instrumentals. "happens for a reason" with dizzee is on there, too.

Chris Houghton (chrish), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it any good?

So...Target Aim High mixtape not out yet, then? Uptown and Blackmarket don't have it...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it's fantastic. tracklisting: the game; pick ur self up; wot do u call it?; eskimo; goin' mad; doorway; that's what i need (ace grime-pop a la you were always; avalanche; reason; got somebody; pies (which takes the sharky diss and tune and turns it into a metaphor for wiley munching up the scene); next level; treadin' on thin ice; i was lost.

Chris Houghton (chrish), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

No "Chosen One"?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that's a tracklist for the wiley album, tim, rather than the target mixtape.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 26 February 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes true. I'm glad "Pick Yourself Up" is on there in that case.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

So who exactly are the So Solid Kids? Are they younger than 16? They sound it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

gimme a minute...

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you familiar with the concept of "youngers"? Here is an example for you:

http://www.rwdmag.com/music_articles/features/35132/nasty_crew/younger_nasty/

(That is Younger Nasty, Nasty Crew's youngers, then there is So Solid Kids, Wile Out Wuns-Wiley's EXCELLENT youngers! I have some sets you would like)

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Kidz In Da Hood, Boyz In Da Hood's youngers.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

This is great, obv:

"What’s good about being in a youngers?
More gash.
"

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

still chuckling over that one!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't doubt it's probably true.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

so join a youngers already!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder what Sarah would say if I said "I AM JOINING A YOUNGERS".

???????????????

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

she'd say "more gash!"

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahaha that seems unlikely!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

She does think grime is "positive" though, for some reason. ?

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha don't sell her short, Adam.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

She obviously hasn't heard COCK BACK or any of the first Heat In The Street.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha are you sheltering her from the mean streets, adam?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Just like always!
