Pete Rock - Lost and Found

I don't know if anyone here has discussed this yet, but I've got to recommend this unconditionally...my understanding is that most of it was recorded just after the final Pete Rock and CL LP...its got tons of great early-mid 90s Pete Rock production, stuff that I can't believe was unreleased till now.
Here's what Joe Beats of the Non-Prophets said about it:

Pete Rock - Lost and Found. It doesn't get any better than this. I
remember waiting for both of these albums back in 1996. What happened?
They got shelved for the jiggy hip hop that plagues your airwaves today. These albums along with THE LP by Large Pro are the last exiles of the best era in hip hop. The first of the double release is INI's center of attention. You heard the single "Fakin Jax" but you never heard the lp. Needless to say the album is a lost classic, continuing in the same quality as the single. The second of the two is Deda. One could argue this is Pete Rock's Group Home type project. Regardless, it's still a Pete Rock production and done so in the fashion of the former. God bless BBE for having the balls to put out these two previously unreleased albums.

I'm not sure what the first post means. A joke? Hah.
Yeah, anyway, i love this album.

When/where was the INI album released?

ddrake, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, actually. I've had it for about 2 years or so---got it online but can't remember what site. It's on Soul Brother Records (the logo is the guy w/the afro w/a pick in it from Pete's Soul Survivor album). I think it may have only been released in Europe.
What label is Lost and Found out on?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

It's on BBE, Oops: http://www.bbemusic.com/ (it may also be out on a US label but I wouldn't know about that, obv.)

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

is the INI on the double the same tracklisting?

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, same track listing on both INIs.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to point to "They got shelved for the jiggy hip hop that plagues your airwaves today." for those who claim that undie hip-hop guys don't sit around dissing mainstream hip hop.

I'd say, first off, he was probably being ironic when he said that.
Second, Joe Beats doesn't represent all underground hip-hop artists regardless. of course there are some who actually think that mainstream sucks. Who cares?
Joe beats still makes better music than you.

djdee2005, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Excuses, excuses.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Good thing those who like mainstream never dis the underground!

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

You guys really didn't want citations then. My mistake. And sorry about the big bad mainstream always sticking it to the poor little indie label guys. It's tough for those kids, ain't it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Certainly tougher than it is for the mainstream, what with them making millions of dollars and everything...

djdee2005, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"you guys"??

I only mentioned people talking shit because of this thread's first post. Anyway, since when did not liking "jiggy hip hop" become the equivalent of being a communist?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a bit of a far fetched analogy. Quick rundown: I was asked on another thread to find examples of undie hip hop guy's disparaging the mainstream, I pointed one out, Mr. Dee responded, I responded, you pointed out that some FANS of mainstream hip hop are big meanies which was completely beside the original point, I responded sarcastically and lump the two of you together in my response which is apparently the equivalent of red-baiting. Hmmn. (BTW I try to ignore the more obvious trife knock-offs--although dk's okay when he's not being a complete shithead--so I didn't get what you were referring to, I actually thought it was a dig at me.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

that quote you pointed out was made by a FAN, too.

i didn't know it was disputed that there are some 'undie' mcs/groups who have criticized the mainstream in the past. Hmm...was Jeru uindie?
