Its here, along with Special Ed's first album, at www.sandboxautomatic.com

I'm thrilled.

Sorry if this was already posted, I searched for it and did not see it.

ddrake, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Has Breaking Atoms really been OOP that long? It's an amazing album.

(Glad to see Sandbox getting the ilm love, I used to work there.)

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Special Ed Youngest in Charge ---- I'm getting a big warm fuzzy right now.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish they'd re-release it on tape - and give it that old new tape smell.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i had special ed on tape! awwww, now i'm getting nostalgic. and now i wanna hear ho down.

scott seward, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I actually just thought about that song when I heard the new Bubba Sparxxx....Special Ed was an innovator of bluegrass-hip hop

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe how long Breaking Atoms has been OOP myself.

let's hope a rerelease of "Word..Life" follows this.

And Vagina Diner, and Runaway Slave, and the LP, etc etc etc

ddrake, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Runaway Slave - yes! I never liked Vagina Diner that much...I thought Akinele was all downhill after Live at the BBQ

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

You weren't feeling "Excersise" or "Outta State" or "No Exit"?!

ddrake, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I poop too much.

Labia, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't even know Breaking Atoms or Runaway Slave were outta print--I had no trouble finding them.
But yeah, Vagina Diner next please.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Breaking Atoms regularly went for upwards of like 60 bucks on ebay all the time.

ddrake, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

the cd?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Could this be a bootleg? Sandbox sells ’em all the time.

Orange, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, I thought breaking atoms was available all the time on vinyl on "Wild Pitch" imports.

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I have one actually and it's not even dodgy. And I paid 10 bucks for it, but this was 1998 or 99.

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

hi, i'm going to repeat things everybody on this thread has already said.......no new info here

i have the special ed tape and i bought the Breaking Atoms on vinyl reissue that i picked up in 98 or 99

i remember hearing one single from Special Ed's second album where his style had gotten way more abstract, almost sounded like he was freestyling and it was really cool, but i never heard anything else. was that album any good?

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

second special ed was pretty good, but I haven't pull out the cassette in a while...I think the single was "Cmon Let's Move It"

DDrake,

I didn't mind the album so much as the way Akinelye's voice and delivery changed from his early appearances (I think there is one on a Kool G Rap album too)...he got so deep and gruff and always emphasized one word per line he would say really deep like "UTTA" or "BUTTA"....I'm not saying it's a bad album, I was just disappointed when I bought it at the time.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the cd?

Yes.

ddrake, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Really? Fuck. I picked that up for normal cd price just a few years ago.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone know who's behind these reissues? a few years ago it was the K.M.D. 'Black Bastard' album now Main Source and Special Ed, can L.A. Star and Tarrie B. be far behind? please.

PeterALopez, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

That KMD reissue was put out by Sub Verse which is sort of a post-Fondle 'Em Bobbitoless Fondle 'Em. I remembered Fondle 'Em released the KMD ruff & rares thing, so maybe this is all connected somehow, anyone know?

But what I'm saying is, the Main Source & Special Ed records are unrelated to that.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

RE: "yeah, I actually just thought about that song when I heard the new Bubba Sparxxx....Special Ed was an innovator of bluegrass-hip hop."

I was thinking the same thing the other day.

dylan (dylan), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

I just bought this for 7 bucks. [ /bragging] Should I resell it for something crazy?

The Reverend, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

No you can just give it me, 'cause I'm so special.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

The inconceivably profuse world of hip-hop sharity blogs rendered this a non-issue for me. I even found the MS B-Sides/Remixes record.

Jon Lewis, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

Haha. Fuck off. (Unless you happen to have, oh let's say, $50 you can spare. In that case, yeah, you are pretty damn special.)

xp

The Reverend, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but people still buy it for stupid prices and I don't really frequent sharity blogs, anyway.

The Reverend, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

Haha. Fuck off. (Unless you happen to have, oh let's say, $50 you can spare. In that case, yeah, you are pretty damn special.)

Hmm, a freelance check DID appear in the mail yesterday...

Anyway I refuse to buy your love. Oh wait.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

I found King Tee's Act A Fool ($60 on eBay) for like $5 at a stoop sale!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

Nice.

The Reverend, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

And extra copies of the Special Ed debut and MC Serch solo record to turn around on eBay to boot!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

Gotta say it was a good day.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

> I even found the MS B-Sides/Remixes record.

!!!!!!!!!!

Where?

Oilyrags, Sunday, 29 July 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

This was last summer. Can't remember what blog. I archived it on a DVDR of MP3s-- lemme find it/transfer it back to computer/up it for you.

Jon Lewis, Sunday, 29 July 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'd like that as well.

dan selzer, Sunday, 29 July 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

Nah I got it. Thanks and big up~!

Oilyrags, Monday, 27 August 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

I'm curious, is the other MS album Fuck What You Think available currently?

Also, I'm glad someone mentioned Word...Life upthread, it reminded me to listen to it this morning.

Jon Lewis, Monday, 27 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

three years pass...

so anyway, I didn't even know about the Main Source Mk. II lineup after Large Professor left...the DJs kept going and recruited a guy called Mikey D, who was apparently a childhood friend/rival of LL Cool J (and is acknowledged with giving LL his name), interesting article on him as the neighborhood legend who was perceived as better than LL back in the day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLxrgBBwHiU&feature=youtu.be

http://www.ozy.com/flashback/mikey-d-the-best-rapper-you-never-heard-of/6439

He joned Main Source in 93/94 and they did an album called Fuck What You Think that eventually got shelved by Wild Pitch (or who the fuck knows that label was such a crooked shit show)....

this song from the album got a video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRAZn1TXHT8&feature=kp

and Madonna sampled it for "Human Nature" in 94

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTSrV_0vG-4&feature=kp

now thankfully the album is up on Spotify and it's a nice little gem of that era of NY hip hop

https://open.spotify.com/album/4ZT4xNNcrxoMdSKjFgV8pK

anyway interesting chapter I didn't know about in the Main Source story

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 14 April 2016 15:05 (nine years ago)

yeah he has an album recorded in the late 80's produced by paul c who was large pro's mentor.

ANU (sisilafami), Thursday, 14 April 2016 17:08 (nine years ago)

oh shit really?

wasn't paul c also instrumental in organized konfusion?

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 14 April 2016 18:23 (nine years ago)

yep, he was also ghostproducing on critical beatdown and let the rhythm hit ’em

ANU (sisilafami), Friday, 15 April 2016 18:16 (nine years ago)

Damn what a talent

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 15 April 2016 18:57 (nine years ago)

Hmm, "Fuck What You Think" is ubiquitous in the used bins, I find like two cheap copies of it every time I'm hoping to find "Breaking Atoms."

Ys Man a.k.a. Have One on G (geoffreyess), Friday, 15 April 2016 22:40 (nine years ago)

It's worth a few bucks for sure

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 16 April 2016 00:29 (nine years ago)

Matt have you come around on the ak ha ha album in 13 years?

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Saturday, 16 April 2016 19:02 (nine years ago)

Ha yeah that was kinda a dumb opinion!
